The idiocy is not only in the south. I was checking out the local private schools for my daughter in an upstate NY city of over 200,000 people. I asked the new principal at one of the Catholic schools what science curriculum they used. He said, "Well, you know, we teach the idea of evolution, but it is mostly religious based." That was the end of that visit.
There are choices, but most people have it stuck in their heads that they should only vote for candidates of the two major parties. The lack of choice is not because of the candidates, but because of the majority of the voters.
IBM, Oracle, and Google all have a vested interest in an interoperable format. IBM and Oracle are professional services companies. Interoperable formats means it is easier for them to implement custom services and provides more surfaces for them to provide integration services. Google wants to know everything so it can advertise everything, and a better format is easier to get information from.
Microsoft is a vendor-lock-in company. OpenXML is designed to lock you in to their platform. They are they ONLY company that benefits.
That is what Motorola makes. Their problem is that the people who want them already have them and will use them for a decade, buying new batteries for $20 as necessary.
People do not want good music. People want to be popular. Entertainment marketing is about convincing people they will be popular if they like (and purchase) a particular kind of entertainment. The trick is producing entertainment watered down enough that you can get a large number of people to not hate it.
The labels are not needed for the artists, but they are needed for the entertainers. Do you really think Justin Beiber would have gotten anywhere without a billion dollar marketing machine? With independent artists, music would be about the music and people would find the music they like. The marketed entertainment industry dwarfs the music industry, and that is what they are fighting for.

And the modern cities are full of uneducated non-religious primitives with guns.

Check the coverage first. If you venture outside of cities, T-Mobile's coverage is lacking.
NTLM is usually where the problems start.
As a resident of NYS, the highest taxed state in the country, the expense of this is far more upsetting to me than the privacy implications.

Because even when people get bills they do not like killed they still vote for the same politicians the next election cycle.
Sure, Microsoft is open in the areas of application software and web services.
So long as you are using .Net on Windows.

The point of music is music (and to get laid). The great artists will be remembered and the art will be enjoyed for years.
The point of entertainment is to part fools from their money (and to get laid).
Sometimes artists get rich, sometimes not.
Moral of the story: If you do not control end-to-end encryption yourself, it is not secure.
CL only has 1 thing going for it: most people use it. Just like eBay.
And take different photos?
In the USA, all of the judges are politicians.
In most places, judges *are* politicians.
Did you think the Olympics(TM)(C)(R) were about competition and fairness instead of about money, bribes, kickbacks, and the worst kind of patriotism?
Nobody liked Rebecca Black. People liked making fun of Rebecca Black.
PPTP using EAP-TLS is still okay, right?

I would rather stay a thousandaire by being a hard worker and nice person than wish I became a billionare by being a dick.
If we do not require basic literacy to vote, we sure are not going to require it to buy computers.
They sell Thinkpads with Linux installed for more than it costs to get them with Windows directly from Lenovo.
