The one game that I've stumbled upon lately is Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns. While not set in the world of aziroth its the type of game war3 should have been now. Not high on the graphic glitz but definately a great game to play. Heh the music kind of reminds me of the war2. Everything else is more or less a nice evolution of the war2 genre with a slightly different world. Download the demo from loki or from the kohan site itself. P.S. I'm not affiliated with either of the companies. I'm just someone who got his warcraft 3 fix from a different source early.
I have serious doubts about paypal. I've not used it but the horror stories on these sites are not encouraging. paypalwarning and paypalsucks Most of the stories seem to be vendor is reputable with good history, gets a complaint or chargeback and gets locked from his account for > 3 months. I guess YMMV.

You know for me the indenting wasn't that big of a deal. I rather like it. The part I have the hardest time with is that you declare variables by assigning them and they don't have types because they are all just reference variables. I guess I'm just too stuck on int x and class y from more strongly typed languages. It seems to me that its too easy to make a mistake when your projects get large. For smaller stuff its great. I whipped out a script that parsed my apache log and created a few include files to display the number of code red hits I'd received in a matter of minutes. Now would I want to write an entire application in python? Probably not.
Sure this is probably flame bait but I'm going to post it anyway. I've got plenty of feul to back up my claims.
I'm a VB programmer by day (it pays the bills) I've written COM+ apps, desktop apps and web apps using VB. It works. Well, mostly. In this last project I've run into so many bugs in MS's line of tools its been nearly unbearable. I've had to throw out or rework lots of code just to get around these bugs. So when I see MS go and talk about how good their stuff is I get a bad taste in my mouth and have to look away. Yeah the integrated tools may get you there faster but you'll spend an awful lot of time figuring out where you're at. Then you'll have to figure out how to get to where you really should be.
MS needs to listen to that old saying about how people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
Actually Soldier of Fortune, Heavy Gear 2 and Shogo have all been released by Loki. All of which have single player campaigns. Multiplayer SoF sucked. Actually I'd say the single player campaign sucked too. The plot was pretty off the shelf and lame. I never played the others.
Here is an interesting point. When we send soldiers off to war we know there is a chance that they might die for our freedom. Ashcroft is taking away this freedom so that some of us won't have to die in a possible terrorist attack. I suppose his heart is in the right place but personally I would rather take the chance of dieing before letting my freedoms be eroded away. I would rather be killed today than see this country become what it despises tomorrow.
Add an entry to the autocorrect list to change Microsoft to Micro$oft and MS to M$. Then you can add entries to your thesaurus to associate Microsoft with other bad sounding words like Monopolist. If you're an admin replicate these files to every pc you control.
Its all conjecture on my part. I base my prediction upon their past practices and leaked documents (Halloween). If M$ held a patent in a key protocol they could refuse to license or charge and exhorbitant amount to license it to an open source project. This would eliminate any effective opensource/free software competition. Even if they did license it M$ would still get a chunk of change from its competitors.
While patents are open for anyone to see they are not open for anyone to implement. You cannot for instance implement the compression used in gifs unless you license it from Unisys.
The catch will be patents in key areas of the technology. MS has talked about using patents to fight open source before. Refer back to the Halloween documents if you need a refresher.

As one who has been out of the hardware market lately I have a few questions. What does it take to setup an AMD MP system? The newsforge article mentions that AMD has MP certified processors but goes on to suggest that you could take 2 of these new Durons and throw them in an MP board together. Does this work with older Durons and what models of Ahtlons does it work with? Who makes good MP motherboards for AMD chips? I have seen that Tyan makes a couple. Are they any good? Thanks for the enlightenment!
If you were using N4.x than forget it. As soon as you have a form control in the way of the menu the control stays on top. Do a google search for xmenu and you will find a menu that works nice with IE4+, N6+ and Opera5+. It does have a problem with some controls but a simple function to hide/show them takes care of that.
Maybe I'm just "lucky" but my experience with Hotmail is nothing like what the author of the article has had. The name of the product does not benefit greatly from the inclusion of the competing product's own name in it's moniker.
How would you describe benefit? There might be some extra mindshare but was there any monetary benefit? Its hard to put a dollar figure on mindshare. I think we can safely say the developer didn't make any money selling copies of his Adobe Illustrator Knockoff.

I looked into this and for a small company actuate is way out of budget. Its been a while but I believe the cost was well over 10K per cpu. I just remember that purchasing that product would have cost more than the development of the rest of the project.

Unfortunately it will be more than just Be that dies when they go under. There is a whole mass of web sites and software developers and others that will have to find a new focus. At least as OS/2 had IBM and its cash reserves. Come to think about it a lot of the news sites for BeOs (benews.com) had almost regular stories of software firms ditching BeOs support soon after 5 came out. Its a shame because it really is a good OS. AtheOs seems to be designed similar. I bet they would get a good leg up if at least part of BeOs was opened. Oh well...

M$ is hassling everybody so that they won't mind the hassle of the XP products. If everybody gets their activation code from M$ then they won't have to worry about licensing. This is just a way of softening perceptions about the impact the new XP products will have. It might sound conspiracy theory like but it makes plenty of sense to me.

I agree that it is horrible for different reasons. It may be a joke but there is more than likely somebody stupid enough out there try it at home. Its just a little bit too feasible for my tastes. Thought it could be the alcohol making it seem that way.

The answer? To be an Uber Geek. Why hack a palm pilot? Why write a web server in postscript? Why turn a tall building into a tetris game? Because its challenging and some people like that kind of challenge. Now go back to your little complacent windows world and keep telling yourself that you really aren't a lemming and that you do lead an intersting life.

I don't know either but I would offer the example of focusing sunlight on a magifying glass on a piece of paper. It doesn't burn right away but leave it on long enough and it will burn. Its likely that she was probably wearing pants or a skirt with some kind stockings. We know that she was in her car when it happened. So at the very minimum she has to stop the car, jump out and take her garments off. I would think that the continued exposure would act in the same way. If you need another example think of going to the beach or a pool. The longer you stay in the sun the more you will burn. Also though 3rd degree burns are characterized by charring it is also classified by the extent of the damage to the skin. A second degree burn while serious usually results in only minor skin damage with blistering. Yes she was dumb for putting hot coffee in her lap but I doubt coffe served at 140 would have resulted in such permanent damage.
"What are the three words guaranteed to humiliate men everywhere?
Really, do 3rd degree burns and reconstructive surgery from a much hotter than standard coffee (about 180 degrees instead of 140) sound frivolous to you? Can we just leave the McDonalds lawsuit out of the stupid lawsuit examples?
