Actually, what I wrote was that they "recently" started the strong support. The drivers for the Voodoo3 series never came out of beta for the Mac, but the Voodoo4 & 5 series drivers are both official and actively updated. The drivers aren't that perfect, but they're supposed to be better than the 3 series, and certainly better than no support at all. Also, they do have Mac-branded boxes. I imagine you never saw one because you weren't in the market for one. They have them at CompUSA, even.
but this is very disappointing to the Mac community, who recently got strong support from 3DFX. Their card performance has been worse than expected lately, but the more choices, the better. OTOH, this could be a good thing, allowing 3DFX to concentrate strictly on chip design, and letting 3rd parties spread that technology around the platforms.
the coolest thing I've seen in a long time. I assume it can't go across water because the motor's not powerful enough, or any waves could give you a sunk board.
Did anyone else notice in the FAQ they ask:
25/ Can I race my Airboard against other Airboards?
I got a SprintPCS phone a few months ago, and it had Amazon as a wireless web link. You could use your 1click profile to make purchases easily. This was the first truly useful instance of 1click for me.
are wrong. One would think he'd have matched the characters better after spending so much time on this. I guess I could have said "Why is the biker from the Village People playing Obi Wan?"
>...they are such excellent fliers and have an accessible nervous system
Note to self- Make sure nervous system is NOT easily accessible by using the BrainAlarm. "Please step away from the neurons! Please step away from the neurons!"
released this OS under a different company name. If everyone thought this was some startup company who had taken FreeBSD, put a stunning interface on it, made it very easy to use, while retaining all of the cool BSD stuff, then we'd hail them as Gods. Instead (and I'm not trying to bait), we have people who read the first 5 letters of the article (A-p-p-l-e) and respond with
>"Why does this crap OS get so much coverage?"
This OS is very promising and I wish prejudice wouldn't come into play. If you check this thing out, I think you'd see why it gets so much coverage. Those who most hate Apple should be the most happy. They're actually changing.
AAPL was at 12 about 3 years ago. It surged up to ~150. Then it went back down to around 90 eariler this year, at which time it split. The numbers at quote.yahoo.com and other sites were adjusted for this split, and, as a result, the numbers look lower. He simply speculated that past events would have affected stock prices, looked at a chart and said "Aha! I'm right!" All that "I told you so" stuff is BS. I know this because I bought 200 shares ~3 years ago at 16 and now have 400 at ~55.
Also, would you buy software from a person who thinks OS advancement is bad and running NT 4 on 33 MHz 486 is a perfectly acceptable setup? For that matter, would you listen to him anymore, or just back away slowly?
The thing I admire about Carmack is that he sticks to his guns. It's cool that he's in a company and is an individual that simply refuses to let M$ or anyone else sway his convictions. It's modern-day cowboyism! And he's from Texas, no less! You can't make this stuff up! Thanks, John.

PS- When was the last time anyone thanked you for writing software for Windows?
Ture, bu the iMac sold for a reason. Part of it was your interior-design motive, but a lot of it was the marketing. Apple advertised it as if it were easier or somehow "different"ly easier to connect to the Internet than anyother computer (other Macs, WinX, etc.) THe genius was in the marketing, and I think Apple will not lose sight of that. You can't talk about an US$80 mouse, when the whole shebang will be marketed around it. The iMac wasn't sold over the crappy mouse, it was sold as a cool looking, easy to use computer that came with a crappy (unmentioned) mouse. I expect the same tack from now on. Chiat-Day will emphasize the great features, and leave the "dirty feet" for the consumer to discover.

Anyone else hear Darth Vader's theme song while reading this article?
