This post was ridiculously moderated. Informative? I think not. Show us sources. You could have as easily said MLK had an affair with the alien known as JFK who personally faked the moon landing. At least throw us the bone of Art Bell links. You blame "the accusation alone" of pushing the public onto Clinton's side, yet you use the exact same tactics in your earlier argument about MLK and the LAPD. I'm not saying I disagree with you, but you should enjoy those informative karma points very, very much.
If we could only get the next level of technology to allow all future wars to be carried out in space by satellites and robots, so that those who want war can fight out their space games, and allow the rest of us to do the important work that will move the world forward. Someone please explain to me why shooting and explosions are still being talked about in the world we live in. Don't we really have much more important things to get around to? It seems so irrelevant and wasteful.
Actually, Apple computer settled the case with Apple Corps in 1990 by agreeing to stay out of the music recording business. What's interesting is, with Apple (computer)'s new iTunes software and cd-r drives, one could argue that Apple has emerged onto the music recording scene. That case differs, AFAICS, by virtue of it's participants being in different industries. It's a case of Apples and oranges, ha ha.
Oh, come on. Of course this is interesting! It shows off the power of the hardware and the programmers! Would you really visit slashdot to read about the newest PDA text processor? I think it's fascinating that a c. 6 year old game that pushed hardware limits then, now runs on a machine that can fit in your pocket! It may not be practical, but if I may quote the byline, this is news for nerds.
If anyone here doesn't think the service at CompUSA is worth swearing about, they're just wrong. I think most, if not all,/.ers are too knowledgeable to ask buying advice from a CompUSA salesperson, but try it sometime. I've overheard the most ridiculous things from the people. Quote: "This computer has 64 RAMs of emm-bee." Would you buy a computer from this person?
Jobs was talking about first time buyers' experiences. These superstores can't afford to hire anyone with sufficient knowledge because there's not enough money in retail to keep them. I challenge you to walk up to the first rep you see in CompUSA and ask them the difference between a Mac and a PC and post the response you get. Jobs is the CEO of a company whose products are being terribly represented in the largest retail market in the field. I'd swear too.
You know what's funny- I've been running the client for a long time and it never really struck me to learn how SETI works. I only understood about 50% of that article, tops. However, it made me think of a really cool aspect of the Internet that hasn't struck me before: SETI is a great example of how the Internet can put really smart specialists (them) in touch with interested, but uninformed resources (me), and work that relationship towards a really cool goal.
Conversely, I realized that I could have been easily hoodwinked by a great sounding operation that I understood (basically) only on faith! I guess the lesson here is caveat downloader!
Apple updated the OS X movie gallery at this address. If you didn't like Aqua before, check this out. I simply can't wait until March. Who wants to break in?
Uh, this isn't borrowing! The theme authors are trying to make these themes look EXACTLY like Aqua, which is part of a commercial, for-profit, non-OSS operating system. One which Apple is pinning its entire future on! Why would they allow any part of this make-or-break software to be diluted in the public eye? IP or not, we don't need lawyers to agree that it looks EXACTLY the same! Are we trying to encourage a litigous society?
You make a great point, but we (the U.S. or anybody, AFAIK) don't have a space-based missile defense system. That's the hotly debated "Star Wars" project that's been floating around (haha) since Reagan. Also, I recall reading about small particles in low orbit being more dangerous than large orbiting objects. If we blew up Iridium satillites or Mir, it would create a lot of debris (impossible to track) that space-bound vehicles (Space Shutttle) might be damaged by.
The following may be redundant, since I haven't read all responses yet, but here goes. It seems that if any of these objects (and the doubtless many to come) are to be "forced down," shouldn't they be recoverable? It's bad environmental and scientific policy just to drop 'em and forget 'em. I'm no hippie or a scientist (or a hippie scientist), but it seems a waste. Oh, yeah, the goverment makes these decisions./rolls eyes
This is a perfect example of the similarities of the linux community and the Mac community. (Stick with me here...) As far as software availability, they're in the same boat. Users of both linux and MacOS feel like boxed software is validation of their platform choice. The twist is that boxed software is old news! Nobody should want a boxed version of anything! It's faster and cheaper for almost everyone to download SW. Boxes don't mean anything. If you're shopping for software at CompUSA, then you're beyond help anyway. Download-only software gets to you faster than waiting for duplication, saves you the drive out to the "computer store" (that won't carry Mac or linux software anyway), and ditches the manual that you know you'll never read.
How 'bout this: Distribute the.PAK files on CD and make the executables download-only for every platform?
And yes, I only use MacOS and redhat, no WinX here.
"We don't wanna support it!" "It's not selling!"... same old lines of the ever-lazy marketing corps...
Isn't linux the anti-marketing OS? Isn't marketing the antithesis of what linux is about? Correct me if I'm wrong, but linux is supposed to be the word-of-mouth, antiestablishment OS. Q3A is not OSS. If it doesn't sell, it won't be made.
Hey, my company invented the "fruity ass grapics(sic)" benchmarking utility, and I resent that remark. Fruity Ass Grapics Benchmarks Inc. strives to accurately measure the Fruity Ass Grapics capabilities of computers of all platforms. As you capably noted, "Mac" does very well on the Fruity Ass Grapics matrix, though other platforms are catching up. Perhaps our other product, "Fruity Ass Spel Checkur" would interest you. Feel free to write me back (from your beloved DOS prompt) at deltree/y C:\*.*
I know this will be considered flamebait, but if Linux is really making the oft-hyped huge leaps in the marketplace, with =>5% marketshare numbers thrown around, then why is it listed here at 1.09% share with the Macintosh listed at (equally underrated) 3.22%? I doubt the iMac's easy internet configuration is responsible.
I'm not sure about that. Technology advances much more quickly now than in The Good Old Days. IMO, the PSX1 has looked pretty lame compared to PC games and others, and needed to be repaced badly. I think the N64 was just mismanaged or mismarketed or both. I agree that it probably never reached it's full potential, but if it hasn't yet, it's missed its window.
You're right, I haven't played the game. I have seen a lot of footage of the game being played, though. To be totally accurate, I should have said "The AI and the adaptablilty appear to be truly unprecedented" or "Based on what I've seen, the gameplay is exciting and unique."
I know game makers overhype their games (Daikatana), but they typically don't show them off in public forums as extensively as these guys have.
about this game is not really the graphics (which are outstanding). The AI and the adaptablilty are truly unprecedented. The movie titled Black and White - The E3 Movie located here really tells the whole story. This is a most ambitious game. It will do things like tie in with you IM client and your creature will read your messages to you if you're playing when you're messaged. The creatures dance to your MP3s, and learn to enjoy songs you play over and over. I'm very excited about this game, and am really hopinng they are doing a Mac version. There's a lot more to this game than any sim/rpg/god game we've seen.
but no Mac-compatibility. Apple did a lot for both USB and style. This device exemplifies both of those, but no Mac support. Pshaw...
Yeah, and used cars are cheaper than new ones.

Doesn't bode well for a server introduction, does it?

I just hope my power stays on long enough to post on Slashd

No, I know, I just meant that we should pick up our trash. Whatever doesn't burn up in the atmosphere should be disposed of / recycled.

I think all of the "millions of pieces of spam" were directed toward my email account. These days, it's hard to tell.

Come on, why would they? I guess a console maker would create an OS for games, but who else? Sounds like Carmackiansim to me.
Well, I'm certainly doing my part to change that for the Mac community! ; )
Thanks for your interest.
Serious inquiries only, please.

I always try Anonymizer or SilentBrowser. They're free (and anonymous) surfing proxies. Often, one of these can get a route.
