ah...reminds me of the good old problem of what happen to the earth if everybody decided to run east....
Anyway, the essential idea is that the station wants to keep its center of mass with respect to the earth a constant. So when you move things around, you shift the center of mass so the station shifts with it.
>a general Arab resentment of the West because the West has replaced Arabia as the center of progress and culture. This is made worse by the obvious popularity of western culture - even as that culture insults all religions and religious ideas
We know that Saudi Arabia has built multitude of temples and colosseums, and has the Mecca a Wonder of the World to boot. This must have generated tons of culture. The west, with its Wall Street and bank wonders, could not have won a cultural victory over Saudi Arabia.
Yes, I know. Though I can't find a way out of the conumdrum : I can't fix my.sig since then the whole point would be lost. I guess I can change it to "Look! I sometimes post no fp and trolls!" but that's too much trouble.
The fact that he got modded up is not because he makes a correct point. He makes a point that clearly spells out his intentions, and it is provocative and even a bit arrogant.
But that's not for the moderators to judge. It is you, the reader, who judges him.
So the moderators are right to mod him up. The moderators are supposed to be impartial. (Of course, the moderators may just be agreeing with him, which would then be ironic : they made a right decision based on wrong reasons.)
How can a clearly Offtopic -1 post be modded up as Interesting +1?
I find the pioneer-10 grav anomaly as interesting as the next person (who happens to be an astrophysicist right now), but come on! This is a topic on Solar Cells for chrissake!

MIT perhaps should join forces with the porn industry : I can see multitude of uses for this microreactors that apply plea^H^H^H^Hpressure at the right places...
that's ok, I've wrote that post having just got out of a talk by a geologists talking about fluid motion on primordial Mars. He used the word Fluvial like crazy.
RP came over here to Chicago to give a colloquim once and he went about telling us how all current theories (string theory, inflation, cosmology etc) are all wrong because they do not incorporate/violate the 2nd law in some form. There was a lot of glancing of faces and rolling of eyes:P.

So they can insert their product placements into existing movies viz:
Goon 1 : "Do you know what they call the Whopper in France?"
Goon 2 : "No? What do they call it?"
Goon 1 : "They call it 'Le Whopper'."
Actually, not yet. THere are a lot of scientists out there, and not all believe that GRB's are supernovas. There are a lot of ideas, but no consensus.
I guess Civ III is not exactly the most popular games in /....
But Temples generate 4 Cultural Points per turn, and Wall Street Wonder only generate 2 Cultural Points.
About being anti-west, my favourite Civ is actually the Romans, which is both Militaristic and Commercial in nature.
But the Russians, which is Militaristic and Scientific is pretty cool too.

Well, I didn't ask for the +1 Insightful. Actually I found it extremely amusing to see it get modded up!
Question : if I makes an interesting post about the Quantum Dot in a topic titled "Linux Kernel 2.5 released", would I get modded +1 Interesting?

...listen to critics? I think I'd rather decide for myself.
:).
Alternatively, I can read Jon Katz's review
" Oh my god...it's full of stars!"
Make my day! Use you /. Unlimited mod points to mod me down. Burn!
btw, FP ( i hope!)
but steve chu once said in a colloquim that the two craziest things that any physicist can do are string theory and organic chemistry....
that's ok, I've wrote that post having just got out of a talk by a geologists talking about fluid motion on primordial Mars. He used the word Fluvial like crazy.
:)
And yes, I asked him what he meant by fluvial
no, it's just me trying to show off my extraordinary vocabulary. The article was talking about fluid motion dissipating angular momentum.
is more profoundly affected by tidal locking with the moon than fluvial effects.
Anybody who knew better please comment on this?
Burn Karma Burn!
put into developing, say the Linux kernel...
:). Viz "Linux....developed by a thousand Microsofts....for free."
and figured out how big a company is needed to reproduce that.
Would make a good "tag-line"
and make porno, real cheap! No more Jenna Jameson!!
Enviromental Disaster : Excellent topic
Biological Disaster : Excellent Topic
but...
Takeover by Robots : Somebody is drinking too much
instead, why not they talk about more realistic issues such as
Degradation of Biodiversity
Overpopulation
Alarming slide in Education standards
etc..
Heh.
:P.

It was a very provocative talk though.
