Emphasis in historical science has been shifting from political history to social and economic history a lot lately. In that context, the SCO case might very well be of interest to future historians - if only as a well documented example of the litigious shitstorms of the early Digital Dark Age..

Just more evidence that SCO is an unholy abomination, an eldritch spawn from the depths, dreaming yet always on the verge of descending upon the Earth in a storm of chaos, madness and despair. Note the double meaning of "lie" in above excerpt from the necronomicon. Note also, that they used to be called Caldera - making their connection to sinister chthonic powers a wee bit too obvious for my taste...

EVE did it right insofar as it gave you ample techniques to avoid unwanted PvP. When I was still playing, I was dwelling in deep 0.0, but did only engage in PvP about once per month tops. I usually hauled stuff around making my life as a trader. Carefully played, the chance that you get ganked is very low. I actually liked the threat of PvP and the measures I had to take to get around safely, while not being particularily fond of PvP itself.

The great Enabler as you call it was not the simple ID card, though. The "Ausweis" was just that, completely normal ID not significantly different from a drivers license. The problems began when you had to present a second document, which not only stated your ID, but also had to document your ancestry over at least 2 and at most 5 generations - the so called "Ahnenpass" (ancestry passport). This document showed whether you were "pure aryan" or not. As far as I know, you did not have to carry it with you, though.

That, and a negligible amount of actually interesting posts. We are at a signal to noise ration of about 1:20 to 1:30 here, guys. Way to go, that's probably a new low.

Yes - and I don't see how this is an argument. How does the fact that something immoral already has happened invalidate the argument that said thing is immoral? Humans have fucked up on grand scales before, should we not make an argument that this was wrong? You might have a point on the "practical" side of things, but then again, as I said, the GPP was basically talking about sterilizing the land, which takes things a wee bit further, don't you think?

Well, nowadays we consider it good style to hold people responsible to their words and actions, not those of their forefather. What point are you trying to make by criticizing his quite rational stance on grounds of his ancestry? Besides, while the settlement of the Americas undoubtedly was accompanied by a genocide, it hardly was a total war on the scale the GP proposed by making a political argument from a game.

The night sky was spectacular and you could spot a lot of things just with some binoculars. Middle of a large town now, the light pollution is so bad you can't usually even see the milky way. The most spectacular night sky I ever saw was when I traveled Iceland, though. I spent a night in a cabin in the middle of the highlands - no civilization around for at least 100 km in every direction. Absolutely breathtaking. No aurora, though, unfortunately. ad 2) Who knows? Scientific revolutions have a tendency to come unexpected and lead to a phase of rapid technological growth. My hopes aren't too high, either.
