So they got a little slap on the wrist. I would think it's safe to assume that they got more then $300k worth of business from their lies. Looks like a win for them....
Part of the problem with a lack of servers is the way the game checks to see if you are able to host a game. If you are behind a NAT firewall, when you connect to a server you use a random high port to the router and the router Translates that into the Address and Port you want to goto on the intertubes. The game checks the port of the outgoing packet (which is a random high port) then the master server tries to connect back to the game via that random high port instead of the port that the router is using, which of course is not the port your firewall has opened/forwarded so it fails....
I might not be explaining 1000% correct but enough that you'll get the jist of the problem...
Sorry about the 'double reply' but I just went to http//writerep.house.gov and firefox is bitching about an invalid security certificate. They expect everyone in the country to keep logs, etc and they can't even keep their site straight...
There's something before 'Probable Cause' called 'Reasonable Suspicion' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reasonable_suspicion that basically let's the cops do anything they want. Sure you might get it thrown out in court, if you can afford a really good lawyer and happen to be in front of the correct judge....
[R]equires less evidence than probable cause, the legal requirement for arrests and warrants. Reasonable suspicion is evaluated using the "reasonable person" or "reasonable officer" standard, in which said person in the same circumstances could reasonably believe a person has been, is, or is about to be engaged in criminal activity; such suspicion is not a mere hunch. Police may also, based solely on reasonable suspicion of a threat to safety, frisk a suspect for weapons, but not for contraband like drugs. A combination of particular facts, even if each is individually innocuous, can form the basis of reasonable suspicion.
So I'm at Chuck Schumer's Contact Page http://schumer.senate.gov/new_website/contact.cfm and I can only select from a number of items to comment on, which in turn has a sub-category I need to select... None of which apply to Technology or Stupid Bills we're thinking of passing.
Guess I need to pick Defense/Personal or Education/Other (as in his)?
After I RTFA, to refer to the correct Bill (S.436 in the Senate and H.R.1076 in the House), I see this bill is call "Internet Stopping Adults Facilitating the Exploitation of Today's Youth Act," or Internet Safety Act, more Think of the Children BS. Guess I know what category to use now....
in the 1990s sign a paper indicating that I was not a member of the Communist Party or any organization allied with Communism. Everyone who joins a union today still has to sign such a statement.
Well, (unfortunately) I've been a member of a few unions and was never asked to sign a piece of paper that stated a I was or wasn't a member of any political party. They were all just interested in a cut of my paycheck.
I'm waiting with bated breath for the suits demanding reimbursement for lost (legal!) revenue
While it's a nice thought, it's not gonna happen.
Amendment XI
The Judicial power of the United States shall not be construed to extend to any suit in law or equity, commence or prosecuted against one of the United States by Citizens of another State, or by Citizens or Subjects of any Foreign State.
Which is generally interpreted to mean states have immunity from suits from out-of-state citizens and foreigners not living within the state borders.
TF2 used to be balanced. Then they started rolling out updates for classes on at a time. And if you don't have the new unlocks you are at a disadvantage. Even worse they tied to unlocks to lame ass achievements, alot of which require you do stuff that is counter to the whole team concept. Of course that just leads to achievement servers where you don't actually play you just do what you need to to unlock the weapons.
Why does he need someone to read it to him? He obviously had it memorized, so why the prompting? Especially from a Chief Justice who really has no comprehension of the Constitution actually means...
Well considering he immediately went and re-authorized every Executive Order, including TelComm Spying on Americans in violation of our 4th Amendment rights, oh and the one authorizing torture.
Of course he didn't have to re-authorize every Exective Order, but did. So much for change...
...insufficient attention to monopoly and consumer protection, to lack of capacity to enforce compliance, to overreach into non-technical areas such as adjudication of morality
I guess the Bush Regime would know all about that, considering that's something they've done time and time again.
wtf is that supposed to mean? tax are more or less mandatory. So my options are move to another country and continue to get spam, or goto jail and get something in can...
Anyway the act is call CAN-SPAM as in I CAN continue to get SPAM.
This is exactly why you use something like TrueCrypt which will allow you to have two encrypted volumes in the same file. You give them the key to the volume that has your tax returns or something else you'd likely encrypt but isn't illegal.
I cannot get a static IP on my home wireless while getting DHCP everywhere else
The easiest solution would be to setup your home dhcpd to give you a static address based on the mac address of that card. This is trivally easy to do on most linux based dhcpd.
A quick google search turned up this link. But if that doesnt work I'm sure you can find another or check out the man page.
I don't know what used stores you are taking about where the used copy is sold far above the price of a new game
Guess you haven't been on eBay lately. They used to be great for a deal, but now it's a bunch of junk that is sold for more then retail. Including used stuff.
When archiving data to CD or DVD I use a program call Quick Par to generate recovery files that I can use to repair the data on the disc if it becomes damaged.
It is based on the same recovery tech that RAID systems w/ parity drives use, and is mostly used to repair Usenet downloads. I usually put 4GB of data and 400MB of PAR2 recovery files on the disc. This will allow ~10% data loss before recovery is not possible. Also I dont have to worry about the TrueCrypt vol becoming damaged and unusable as well.
Not only that, those 2 camera are always pointed at an employee. When my Credit Card got stolen, the thief went into WalMart and charged the hell out of it (so nice of the CC company to raise my limit on the spot for them). When I asked if they could use the camera that's over the register to get a picture of the guy that stole my CC, i was told that's there to stop employee shrinkage (theft), and wasn't aimed to see what the customer was doing.
Everyone I know that have a job that pays over 100K+ gets a nice black berry from there company. Why would they go out and by an IPhoney when they already have a phone that is paid for by their job?
I would think this is also true for most people that work for decent company and is above an entry level position. How else would they be able to keep you on the hook 24/7 ?
So how come any one was accuses the government of anything is a tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy nut, but the US Government has charged more people with conspiracy then any other crime?
Thought police indeed.

...wants to be free as in beer.
I keep hearing about this 'free' beer on slashdot, can someone PLEASE tell me where I can find it? I would save me so much money a month. TIA.
So how much does that cost a year? Especially when the government is broke because they bailed out a bunch of banks....
But they are lawyers and will do whatever is in the best interest of their bank accounts .
There, fixxed that for ya....

C'mon this is slashdot, where Commodore bashing is almost a popular past time as M$ bashing!
