    You write an app in GTK. Your app tells GTK to draw a drop down list box. The GTK tells X to draw drop down list box. The binding between the two transmits `draw GTK list box' down the wire to your host.

    We already have something like this, it's called html/xml/whatever. Someone just needs to write an engine (a la java) that takes over and sends/receive xml/javascript stuff (or something like the microsoft .NET stuff) and dump it on the screen.

    nautilus already supports SVG icons... (this is similar to the PDF in MacOS X, except it's open and free)

    This is an usual error in japanese->english translation. There is no difference in japanese between 'R' and 'L'. For instance you can see this in a lot of casio graphics calculators, in the form of 'IRREGAL ERROR'

    Of course Microsoft can sue. SQL Server is just plain better than Oracle. Has anyone actually tried to use Oracle? It's a nightmare compared to SQL Server.

    And SQL Server is pythyfull in useability compared to Postgresql... That one is simple, easy to set up, and so on.
    Takes me about 10 minutes after compilation to set up to useable status (and linked to php and everything.
    The big guys are just that, Big, but not useable.

    That's what should be used on a secure network (with encryption between each terminals and the respective servers...)
    Dump NT, it is NOT secure, you can't state your network is secure...

    If Windows is handicapping you so much, tell me. If your sysadmin is so ass-backwards that he doesn't recognize a good explanation of the benefits you'll get from using Linux, then he's an idiot and what are you doing working in an IT department with this guy managing your systems? Chances are he's missed the boat on more than just this one issue.

    Hi, I work for a state department (no, you'll not know that here, the info is available, but you'll have to find that yourself...)
    I can tell you only one thing :
    Some idiot decided to sign an exclusive contract with Microsoft. I had to go through an incredible amount of loops to develop my app (printing reports from a web server to some network printer) and create a f*****ing NT service instead of piping to lpr...
    I can tell you that in two years, when I won't be working for these people anymore, I'll still be cursing these bozos...

    Yes they are running Windows on the laptops up there (check spaceref.
    There is a Free software project, but it's pretty much dead (or dormant.). I'm currently researching some maths about it.

    I'm sorry, but this is not a Micro$uck$ standard, but an OMG [Object Management Group] standard. It started with their RPC standard.

    That's right, they did the same thing with win2k, hacking Winnt 4 (it looked a lot like this with NT4 in the background and some extra hacks in the foreground)
