Actually, Apple used to distinguish between LocalTalk (which was the cabling system that plugged into your serial port) and AppleTalk (which was the protocols which ran over whatever cabling system you were using). You could also run AppleTalk networks over Ethernet or TokenRing.
This shows how little you know - Gimp doesn't come anywhere near Photoshop in features, ease of use (think of the History palette) and pro features - does Gimp even support CMYK yet?
IBM has announced nothing about making any PowerPC beyond its current 750's and (licenced from Motorola) 7400's. It has said nothing about a PowerPC G5. Everything else is just rumours.
Have a look at http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2336 967,00.html for some details of Motorola's plans for G5.
You misunderstand the current psychological state of Russia, which already sees itself as being bullied by the West over Serbia. If some Russian politician poses this as an issue of 'national pride' Russia will go to the edge over this.
That's not the only reason. ABMs undermine the psychology of deterrance, which was the motor behind much of the Cold War. Neither side could afford for the other to *potentially* develop an ABM system better than theirs.
All international arms control treaties, including this one, have an 'or successor states' clause, which means that all of the states formed out of the Soviet Union are bound by all treaties sign by it.
Of course they did. And Motorola delivered according to the schedule it gave Apple. That Apple chose to ignore that in the hope Moto would get higher yields is no ones fault but Apple's.
It's not journalists who got confused over this one - it's Apple. The day after the downgrade announcement, *very* senior Apple people were phoning up journalists saying that people's orders would be reinstated. Unfortunately, they forgot to tell their PR people this.
"Mr. Gates added that the phone would have an amazing one hour battery life (standby: 5 minutes talk time). The screen will be 640x480 resolution, five inches across and three down, thus fitting comfortably in the palm of two hands."
Strictly speaking, QuickTime isn't "a codec" - it's a wrapper that can use any codec.
And Apple shows no interest in encouraging its codec partners (Sorenson in particular) to port to Linux.
Your second point is correct. And I think in order to really establish itself as a standard capable of beating Real, it would have to Open Source the QuickTime player, *and* as much of QuickTime's code as would be possible. Whether there's a viable business model for Apple there is another question, of course...

If I remember correctly, the broadband PS2 widgit includes a hard drive.

Exactly the kind of subtle political analysis that you'd expect from a Capitalist...
Yep, that's the usual treatment that capitalists dole out to marxists.
How ironic that someone who's in favour of cheap factory labour and wage-slavery should talk about Animal Farm.
Perhaps you should check out some of Orwell's background.
What percentage of the total electorate voted in your last election for the president you have?
Hell, hom many people voted for capitalism? I certainly never got asked that one at a polling booth...
Oooh, they attacked *businesses*! Wow, I thought attacking capitalism was all about just painting faces and dancing weird!
Destruction of property isn't violence in my book. Destruction of people is.
This evident flame bait gets moderated up?

Not true. ZDNet got it right - Apple actually changed its plans.
It's not journalists who got confused over this one - it's Apple. The day after the downgrade announcement, *very* senior Apple people were phoning up journalists saying that people's orders would be reinstated. Unfortunately, they forgot to tell their PR people this.
StrongARM-based devices could run 68K code in emulation, and get better performance than the Dragonball in your Palm.

Yes of course he was. Oh look - black helicopters flying overhead! Piloted by fiendish chinese UN soldiers! Argh! Argh!

But surely, in a market where there are more non-technical users than ever, "the ultimate point-and-click box" is of the greatest relevance?
"Freeing our conventional response options"?
Oh, so you mean you can bomb baghdad like the Allies bombed Dresden?
That'd be progress, wouldn't it?
Actually, I think that's already happened: Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.
And we all know who dropped *those* bombs, don't we?
Does this "THIS REALLY WORKS!!!" tone of this remind anyone else of chain-spam??? :-)
