Yes, for example, a shoe by Nike might be the most comfortable fit of all shoes of that type, but does that justify how the shoe was made (for example, in a sweat shop)?
That happened to myself too, only a few months ago. My mother bought me a mobile phone that i could use on my holiday interstate "just for emergencies".
I ended up having to use it only once for an "emergency" (ordering a taxi), but spent a significant amount of time using it for pointless other conversations, rather than actually having a holiday.
If you find yourself trapped into such a contract where the employer owns anything and everything you do whilst being employed there, just write some software that violates the DMCA.
If somebody (say, Justice dept.) runs after you for it, you're not the one who owns, and therefore not responsible for it.;)
I reckon the best way to stop people complaining about "Bugs" in Outlook is if Microsoft (officially) invented their own mail system, calling it MSMail, still supporting both the RFC email standards, but only enabling sending using the MSMail standard.
Then again, they're already doing this... its just not official.:)
I must say, this exciting. I hope (but am skeptical) that Australians will get up off their duff to have a look at this, because it doesn't happen often.
I'd have to say I can relate to your suffering. I too am doing a CS degree, and lately as my marks have been falling from 70/80% averages down to 60/70% averages, my interest in the subject dwindles with it.
The only thing that keeps me motivated is my job as an environmental consultant, building databases and designing systems for environmental data. It may not sound like a great job, but you do learn things which wouldn't be learnt in a purely computer-based environment, like how a mine site works, and also lots of mathematics (simple things, but still applicable), such as what is the best type of equation to calculate the mean across a series of water samples.
In the end, i may only have a degree that says I'm a qualified computer scientist, but I'll also have experience in a wider range of fields... having other things to do aside from IT also makes the job more interesting.
If all else fails, find something which employs your computer skills, but lets you learn about more interesting things in the process.

I'd like to believe that such a law (in the US) would cause a global crash in the new hardware market. If this legislation does pass, which it may well do, we should all collectively boycott new hardware and support used goods instead of the latest...

Cyanide Heap Leeching is not necessarily dangerous to the environment until it is released to a tailings storage facility (A big pond containing the refuse cyanide solution from the process). The beauty of (hopefully) running gold ore through a microbe solution instead of a cyanide solution is that if it were pumped a similar TSF-style pond, the ore would continue to break down (not just gold, but iron and other metals too) whilst it is in the pond.
If you paid money for a CD, why would you let anybody copy the tracks off you?
Even if it -is- for your friends, wouldn't that be somewhat equivalent to subsidising their music collection?
That's a rather benevolent action if ever I saw one...
People who live in grass houses shouldn't stow thrones.

It hasn't been used since.

Don't forget the McDonalds spinoff with the dog in the back of the ute...
speaker: "Please place your order"
dog: "Burger"
(speakers line may differ from original advert. Hey... it was a long time ago)
Don't forget those crazy fur hats they wear. If they were tempted, one of them might end up wearing the microphone on their head.
Good plan, CIA!

Enormous potential.
