I bet all three marketing and management teams got tegether at some big convention and made a bet. They'll all three release systems with the exact same hardware (from IBM) but spin it in their own marketing manor and plan release times according to all the theroies you see thrown around and see who can win.
Or how about they just hired one of the stundents and his first thing to get in good with management was let them know about all the trading that was going on while he was on campus. Then using some kind of alumni or graduate program getting back onto I2 to snoop would be easy.
I like your x patents per y. If we were to say any one entity was allowed to have 10 patents per year for example, this would get back to helping who patents were really suppose to help. The little guy. Where as pantent hoarders would either have to hire little guys to hold patents for them of which they could sell them selves to the highest bidder or actually invest in real research and development into producing the most important 10 patents per year.
Yea, every sense Intel release the specs for its processor it has just been going down hill to 3rd party knock offs. Their network cards, toast. Same with Broadcomm.
So we should just set the sentance for spamming at a very tiny 2 seconds per spam mail in jail. That seems fair to me. Send out 150 spams get 5 minutes in jail. Maybe my parents would quit sending me those crappy jokes if they had to go server a couple of minutes in a jail cell.
I don't buy it. While I'd say there is a small amount of influence pushed by the corps. I really doubt it would even add up to 10% of the demand for most products. Some things that are specificly style related such as clothes I could belive far more than 10% but for most consumables I don't think it ammounts to much.
Pleaseing customers is part of making money. Of course most mega corps try to balance it to the point of least amount of customer pleasing possible without losing money. While good compines try to please customers more while they may or may not make maximum amounts of money.
By saving all that day light you can then spend it later in the year. Like during the really cold snowy days. You could use it to make your outdoor event much nicer if rain is predicted. There are lots of advantages to saving daylight.
No, they'll set it up where we have 3 months of rgular time, then 3 months of day light saving time, then 3 months of extra day light saving time (2hrs), then 3 months of back to regular day light saving times, then finally back 3 months of regular time again for the next year.
Europeans occasionally tour the Americas. You know why? Some government said lets send people there and they paid for Chris to do it. Now there is whole countries here.
Your ideal of a quest for knowledge is noble, but for many there is also that quest for experience. Just knowing what is on Mars is much different than actually being on Mars.
Millions of tourists travel yearly to well documented locations. Would their $5,000 vacation to tour Italy be better spent just reading some books and looking at the pictures. I mean then you don't have to worry about lost luggage, weather, being robbed, getting lost etc...
I know most geeks don't really understand but there is more to life than knowledge.

It would be an interesting experiment at least.

See, you can catch my parallel perfectly.

Of course arguing creationist mythology is like saying 2+2=17. Cause god said so.
Second class countries are always trying to point out something better than what we have here in the US. Just let them wallow in their delusions.

Grew up in AZ. No day light savings time. Never hit by car.

Ohh, them scientests and their "Sky is falling" ridderick. I'll show you in 6 billion years that there is nothing to worry about.
"...charge as much as you possibly can for Free software."
And people think its strange when someone says free software developers are nuts. I understand it, but with that basic statement very few people will.
Are you trying to tell me that "I am bender, please insert girder" isn't peverted???
I'd put Parrot in this boat as well what started as an april fools joke turned into a real project.
A chunt is easy to climb. That is unless it is steap.
Like the dandruf shampoo comercials.
- "You use Brand X? You don't have dandruff."
- "Exactly."
