Once the original philosopher's statement has been proven wrong then maybe it could be re-evaluated but there is 2000 years of history proving his statement. Your knee jerk reaction of anti religion unfortunately blinds you to even the true parts of the philosophy. Being an atheist I may not believe in god or that some supposed carpenter stand up philosopher from 2000 years ago was his son, but I can still identify the wisdom in the statement.

Either way spending money in society helps all, and provides incentives for others to become more productive.

Valve's structure seems like it's modeled after the 20th Century Motor Company from Atlas Shrugged. Everyone evaluated everyone else and decided who was productive and who wasn't It eventually imploded on itself as there was less and less incentive to actually work and more and more to just please your friends and groups to make sure you maintained a paycheck.

I wish them luck, but just like every other socialist plan it works great for a shot while, perhaps even a few decades, but it always falls to ruin faster than a free market based on incentive to do great.

Reasons why some Americans are Democrats:

    1. They are rich, it benefits their self interests, they know it and they don't care about other issues ( fair enough, that is human nature ).

    2. They were raised Democrats, the people around them are Democrats, they have an emotional affiliation with the word "Democrats" they way some people do about a religion even though they seriously don't believe what is in the writings. This emotional affiliation creates a filter such that they will not look at the facts and how it relates to their interests, with an open clear mind.

    3. They are under-informed, misinformed or just not that bright.

Group 2, can be of average intelligence and event smart. Group 1 tends to have very smart people, who got rich and/or stay rich by using their smarts...and resources, to misinform, then emotionally manipulate Group 3 and Group 2.

That is how there can be many stupid people who are Republicans ( Group 3, MoveOn, etc ), yet Democrats can and do pull many dirty unethical tricks that require intelligence.

who in the US "has" to work 60-80 hours for a modest life style?

modest 2 bedroom apartment in decent lower cost city $1000mo. grocery bills for family of 3 $800mo. Used car $200mo including gas. 4 weeks times 40 hours = 160hrs

So $12.50hr after taxes will will support a family of 3-4. A second income could help that. The average in the US is nearly double that.

It's the life style not the income that's the problem.

(sorry wild speculation time) Over the next 10-20 years these advances will equal then far exceed the two tunnel visioned eyeballs and puny ears you have, as well as the slow reaction time and limited interface to the vehicle.

Most of the suggested one sided transactions you post are not that great. Most restaurents (minus fast food) you pay after the meal. even Starbux if you say the coffee you got was bad they will replace or refund it.

As far as the value of money being mostly constant I mean from day to day. I don't have to worry about it. As far as what ever you're selling me it requires an expert in making you think it will solve all problems (sales and marketing) just to get me to buy it. Money doesn't require that.

I guess in some ways I had to use sales and marketing to acquire money in the first place.
