    Whoa boy are you miss informed. money has value because it has supposed scarcity. Government backed just means that the government or one of their agents controls that supply and does or doesn't screw it up. Bitcoins are limited by a mathematical theory/proof.

    Exactly, if you want to increase your income but continue to be a programmer then look elsewhere. You already make a decent amount of money as a programmer use it to invest in some other things like rental properties or stocks. It's a little after hours effort but it will increase your pay without having to move down into management.

    Yea, reading the summery I immediately thought the Open vs Free intro was described the opposite in the rest. I envision GPL to guarantees the code remains open, while the others are free to be enslaved. It boils down tho the argument, Is a county more or less free if you have the freedom to enslave others?

    perhaps they could find a rock of titanium that hasn't been exposed to oxygen. Perhaps tungsten or other pure elements that are hard to mine here on earth may be found easily mined on an asteroid and the only difficult part may be the transportation. Perhaps there are rocks that have large amounts of elements that are only trace here that may be of great value if we had enough to actually test with.

    Back when I was poor I had to limit my travel to currently available cash. I wasn't always able to afford a full gas tank and would only fill up $3-5 worth until the next payday. Sometimes overly privileged people that don't have to live on a budget don't know these things.

    Don't even have to do that, it's emailed directly to their car and printed out. No need to even leave the seen. The one time I had to deal with this, that's exactly how it happened. Took 15-20 mins to get it.

    The part where they determine who owns what that mechanical device is sitting on. The right to freedom of movement is good and all as long as it's not on federal, state or city roads and highways.

    I have found that PhD means you are very focused, not necessarily smart. You just happen to know way more about one thing than most anyone else at the expense of being well rounded.

    Just my anecdotal observation YMMV.
