Yep: massacre of anyone sharing the same religion as Guy Fawkes, leading to two-sided clash of faiths that would rapidly have drawn in other countries and had an impact far beyond the initial location of the event.

This is nothing to do with Halloween, this is just little thugs chancing their arm. They'll be back the next night, hoping you've forgotten them. And again at Xmas, with a quick, desultory chorus of "Jingle Bells" and an outstretched, grasping palm.
Never leaving the TV to open the door is a good way to avoid this happening.
I'm quite shocked by the number of formerly dedicated Nikon/Pentax shooters who professed to love their gear and are now rushing out to buy a low end "toy" SLR just because it's digital and costs under a grand. Maybe they're right, maybe it will revolutionise their photography because they can shoot more. Or maybe they're taking a step backwards just for the sake of owning a hyped-up gizmo.
If you are the kind of photographer who - at the extreme - likes a nice old manual SLR with a "legendary" prime lens and swoons over B&W, I'd say don't get the 300D unless you're about to radically alter the way you take photos. I.e. If you like to take your time over shots, you want full control and enjoy the film process. If you're a photo nut who wants to carry a camera everywhere and shoot everything to some minimally acceptable level of quality, you'd probably want to marry your 300D after a month.
I suspect many photographers don't actually know what kind of photography they like. They are the people who will spend years thrashing around buying whatever the latest must-have gear is.
The others will probably have decided what they need from a camera and will be prepared to wait until it becomes available in digital at a price they're prepared to pay. If they want digital at all, that is.
To end with some solid advice: unless your desire for this camera is giving you heartburn, I'd wait at least until you see Nikon's response (a "D75" is rumoured for next year) and then choose.
Last night I booted up my SPARCStation 5 at home and it was still slower than my Athlon gaming box, particularly when running Mozilla. Also, it still doesn't run my Linux binaries. Therefore, I have to agree with the Collective Wisdom of Slashdot that Sun is dead!
Any current or prospective Nikon owner should immediately sign up to the Nikonians site and start reading the forums relevant to their model and interests.
I see the/.gods have already got to this thread: "Duh, it's easy, just use cron/telnet/syslog!" Do any of you people have more than a home PC to maintain? Come to that, would anyone trust you with more than that?
You remind me of an American tourist I saw in Scotland recently: "Yeah, Larry Jr's a big Dr Who fan so I bought him a TARDIS!" she squawked, clutching a model of a red public telephone box. Poor Larry Jr, kid must be so disappointed...
You're going to read justifications from both sides of the fence, then all kinds of reports to discount assertions made by each side, plus random alternative advocacy for favourites like MacOS X. Your problem isn't picking "the best" option; it's that your team can't (or won't) stop arguing about it and while this drags on, the people you convinced to go with Unix over Windows will wonder if they couldn't have had a W2K network in the same time.
Face it, when you pick one then you'll have to make it work in a consistent, reliable and centralised fashion because you won't be going back. And you can do that with either Linux or Solaris because the solutions you want exist for both; in many cases, it's the same (Unix) software, like Cfengine. Don't spend too long worrying about which is easier or harder to set up and manage; once you've learned how with either OS, which you're going to have to do anyway, then it will be "easy".
Hey, can we just go over the Firebird migration one more time?! Please? And then cover the AOL stuff? And maybe a bit about resource footprint compared to IE? I promise not to read any of it so we can repeat it all for the next beta.
I tried it, idiot, which is why I'm not convinced. You may get a few trade mag reviews (by journalists who give it a tick if they managed to install it) but precious few actual user experiences or opinions.
Perhaps I simply lack your divine perfection. I can live with that.
Flawed or not, the article points up one issue with Google that I keep encountering: searching on the name of a particular product or company for user reviews and experiences usually throws up several pages of ecommerce links first. I don't want to know where I can buy the damn thing, I want to know whether it's any good (or more importantly, who's been burned)! (NB. I'm not convinced that simply appending the word "review" to the search string has the desired effect. Maybe I should try "[product] -scum -sucking -capitalists".)
Searching USENET sometimes finds more relevant information, ironically perhaps because of the greater anarchy there.
WOW, more attractive chicks swallowing live animals whole?!! Ho boy. Suggestion to the producers: can we see a girl eating a gopher this time? No wait, two girls sharing a koala! With honey! Nnnnhhhh....oh god, my keyboard's sssttttiiiccckkkiiinnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggg......
The what?? It was shut down years ago in the name of outsourcing and private enterprise.

In the case of the final book, Mostly Harmless, it is to be sincerely hoped not. They can only make the radio version better.

The knock-on might have been huge, though.

Just like 9/11 in fact.

OK, the version of top to which you're referring is actually here, and it only works on Linux anyway.
top for Solaris and other Unices is here. It's great for monitoring a single system in real time, but it's not what the poster is seeking.

For a specifically Solaris solution, look at Orcallator, but read my experiences with that and SARGE first.
I'd second the various Nagios recommendations. The object templating configuration is very powerful once you get your head round it.

The National Geographic, Michael Freeman, Bryan Peterson and John Hedgecoe books are widely recommended for beginning photographers.
But whatever you do, spend more time shooting than reading. (And don't get trapped into buying gear instead of taking photographs.)
