Can we also cease with the melodramatic "biggest blackout ever" crap. Sure, it may have affected the most people, but the power was only out ~24 hours or so. Ice storms have taken the power down for a longer length of time. The power being out for a long time is truely bad, but not a temporary glitch like this one.
That is exactly what is ruining tech support: metrics. Everyone in the call center business is so enamoured with sounding professional by having these 'measures' of call support that they forget they are there to solve tech problems.
Note that most call centers get paid by "average customer wait time" or "call length". Call centers eventually hire 'tards that are only good for getting customers off the phone in 15 minutes. After all, the call center tech's employement depends on having that 15 minute average.
Note that they never measure if you actually solved the customer's problem.
Where do you think previous ventures in selling content, such as Contentville, failed?
Contentville is an interesting example. In some ways, it was the right idea. But it was the wrong time, because people were not paying for content three years ago.
Well uhhh, because I said so in my prospectus. Duh, of course people will pay for it TODAY! Hey, just because everyone wasn't buying my crap a few years ago, doesn't mean they won't buy it now.
Well, since the most major improvements to Windows in the last 8 years (Active Directory) has been available in some form or fashion in Novell for over 15 years
Well, shit. I didn't realize Novell released NDS in 1988!
But the discounts for tickets (or increase) is a KNOWN point. I get a certain price at a certain point regardless of who I am. In a price discrimination model, two people buy the same regular ticket for the same movie at the same time but get different prices.
...and buyers have the right to put away their wallets and hit the sellers where it really hurts. A company that tries this and faces consumer backlash will drop this in a hurry. Price discrimination depends on A) having a lot of accurate data about individual buyers and B) buyers not sharing this information. The cost of collecting and maintaining all this individal data is going to far outweigh the profits after consumers figure out this scam and hit back.
If you are flying on business, you don't care about price because the company is picking up the tab. You won't walk away. The airlines know this and use it to their advantage. All this on top of needing to fly soon. I don't care how soon you want to fly, if you come in through a business account, you'll pay more.
But that difference in price isn't because of the ID of the person, but rather the time they bought it. Price discrimination would be for two people to buy the exact same type of airline seat at the same time and pay different amounts based on who they are.
The difference is there are regular prices and discounts, ie cheaper tickets. Plus in the cases of discounts, there is a known point of discount that counts for everyone. Plus, senior discounts generally target a group that lives on fixed income.
Price discrimination takes away price transparancy and leaves everyone guessing what the price is. Imagine walking into a store and not seeing price tags. Imagine no one will tell you the price until you give up your ID.
And excuse me, this is a problem unique to America? I think it is about time someone got a realistic view of the WORLD. Try being a peon in another country.
Further there are several Microsoft OSes that doesn't even know IPv6 exists yet; Microsoft certainly have to take a big part of the blame for this issue
Yeah, everything pre-Windows 2000. Which means they're unsupported anyway. Who cares?
What lack of supply of IPs will IPv6 solve for the home broadband user? None. To communicate effectively with the rest of the internet, you will need a valid IP on the broadband network you're on. That means you HAVE to get one from your ISP. Single supplier, same preposterous prices. It isn't the lack of IPs that keeps the fee high, its the greed of your ISP.
Consumers do NOT choose rationally - hence the huge market for trucks as family transport.
Actually, trucks as family transport IS rational. Try carting around 3 kids for any length of time. The problem is that alt-car types are being HIGHLY irrational when considering what the average person needs. Frequently they only consider a single person's needs, and not a family. Remember that you cannot just cram your kids in the back seat willy-nilly any more. You need car seats, and you can't let someone sit where there isn't a seatbelt.
Oh, and I'LL decide what enhances my life. That is far too an important decision to simply leave up to government. Life, Liberty, and THE PERSUIT OF HAPPINESS. And if your from outside the US and don't have that ideal working for you: My condolences.
3-4 days???? Try 2-4 WEEKS. That is a tough blackout. Especailly in the winter.

BREAK OUT THE BROOMS!!!!!!
Isn't the prevailing opinion that MS is bankrolling this whole debacle to discredit Linux?
Do you celebrate your conception day? How about your Birthday?

Hello? You believe everything you read? Plenty of studies point to the opposite. Ask anyone living in Detroit what they think of less streetlights.
Fine, you be the first to darken your street. Don't get mugged. Hope there's nothing valuable to steal in your house.

? A company slogan that translates loosly to "tree"?
Well, shit. I didn't realize Novell released NDS in 1988!
Ha! So long Ximian, it was nice knowing you. Novell will run them into the groud like they do with everything else they touch.

But look where that got Amazon.com. People will eventually find out and there will be backlash against the company found using this scheme.

True, but how many election calls do you really get? I've got 2 in my entire life.

Who subcontracted all the actual coding to Microsoft. Even a few years post-split.
I'd feel better if the wheel base was wider. 3000lbs is a lot to tip over at 60mph.
