They're slow, don't follow any native UI guidelines, and are a thorough pain in the ass to use.
If a company brings their product in and it is written in Java, they are demoted and booted if any of their competitors have a remotely close app. I hope SUN sits up and takes notice of that last bit. People using your little system are losing money.

This is not insightful. Windows servers run applications that replace the clipboard seen in every patient's room. The data exists on different platforms, but it is presented through Windows servers. This is where the backlash is comming from. Patients still can be cared for if these systems go down, but it is inconvienent to say the least. Vendors not keeping up to date and on top of the latest security releases is inexcusable. They only write their software on the Windows platform so they should keep up and stop writing shoddy 16 bit software.
Seeing as how these early scientists published during a time when you had to suck up to the church or die, we have to examine and decide if the religious writings were heartfelt or a CYA move.

Mars and the Moon most definately count. You take baby steps before you make giant leaps. Human usage of the local solar system is critical for any deep space leap.
How to reliably survive the hostile environment of space and planets of the solar system. You can measure and model all you want but until someone goes up there and does it, survival will be a question mark. There is absolutely no substitute for human interaction in that regard. The whole reason for space exploration is to turn towards space colonization. You're just not thinking clearly if you don't see that as the end result.
The Auto industry guys are far more aggressive than IBM and the computer industry in general. And as proof I submit that the DC suit is over while the IBM one drags on. SCO's fist mistake was choosing to sue for revenue. Going after IBM is exceedingly daunting, however they are sort of in the same industry as SCO so there is a façade of plausibility. However, in going after DC, they ran into a buzz saw they were in no way prepared for.
They'd have to come up with something good to get this back. But in the end, SCO's 2nd biggest mistake was fucking with the auto industry. They have great lawyers and know how to use them. They are not going to be intimidated by some 2 bit operation like SCO. (and yes, I do even mean SCO in it's heyday). To mess with the auto industry you have to be right, have ALL your ducks in a row, and be very, very lucky.

Big businesses exist outside the software relm. Hospitals, Car Companies, Shipping companies are all large corporation status. And my question stands. These companies do NOT want to be in the business of writing their own software, and in the last 10 years they have gotten out of that business because they are not good at it. So again, what advantages does Linux give these companies who dont' care about development and only want to run the programs (Hyperion, Peachtree, Citrix, Cerner, Peoplesoft, SAP, etc) that get their business done?
