Not really. It will still take developer time and that means money. Why waste it on yet another port when a company will be knee deep in it as they transition to linux?
I know those are his sentiments, not necessarily yours, but the reason new rollouts will go with linux is that linux is the hot sport for new app development. You know, that little advantage that has allowed Microsoft to dominate the computing arena the last 10 years or so.
Please outline again how IRAQ had anything to do with 9/11? Oh wait, you can't. But yet another incompetent conservative that won't let the actual facts of a situation guide his actions. The cognitive dissonance of the right is nothing short of sad.
Maybe if you spawned entire new industries with well paying jobs they wouldn't have to worry about the living conditions of the people on the ground.
Kind of like the space program. And I'm sure the vast majority would see the living conditions of America as a vast improvement. I guess the highest GNP per capita in the world is to ignoble a goal for them Indians, eh?
Problem is we didn't find anything specifically outlined by the Conservative hardline and in particular outlined by Powell at his UN speach. And yes, that includes quantities of Sarin. Finding a few dozen canisters isn't the hundreds of tons outlined by Powell and the Bush administration.
Europe fixes their polution problems, while the US somehow manages to both sit on their thumbs
Wow, talk about opening your mouth and proving beyond all doubt that you are ignorent. If you think for a second that Europe a) has owned up to being a major polluter and b) done much to stop it while c) American has done nothing in the last 20 years you're not looking. Clue: Try actually READING the Kyoto accords.
It's not good for everyone because the Kyoto accords basicly require the US to pay for the whole damn thing. We have our pollution problems, but Europe has been very slow in acknowleging thier piece of the puzzle. Plus, leaving big polluters like China out, and not taking Russia to task for their situation, just won't get us anywhere. In short, Kyoto wasn't about attacking pollution, it was about extorting money out of the US.
Yet another bad car analogy. Again, who is 'losing' when space is 'exploited.' You see, when someone, something, or a group of people are exploited, it means they are being taken advantage of in some way. In traditional accusation theory, expanstion of colonial powers exploited the native populations for the resources in thier country. So in Space, who is the big loser?
It's just that I don't really need an Office Suite. (I imagine most home users don't.)
Therein lies 95% of the problem with OSS and it's developers.

Spot on. Some people forget that work is not life and life should have much more than your job in it. But I guess because of that attitude, I'll never be CEO.
Instead of dealing with the issues raised in the artcle, many people here choose to lay blame at the admins or stupid end lusers. Suck it up. Linux isn't perfect and it certainly is lacking in the business application software. Don't throw up Open Office, that is.00001% of business needs. The relies here are typical of the lack of support sited.
That's because you had to. And in those times those that were not experts at it (read: most everyone) ran risks: Starving, accidents, etc. Our social structure supports specialization so we can concentrate our time on things we enjoy or improve our own specialization. I like to tackle projects around the house, but I positively hate plumbing. It is to my benefit that I can call an expert if I'm over my head rather than being stuck with my shoddy plumbing efforts.
The thing that is baffeling the Windows administrators here is the 49.7 day bug was NOT in windows 2000. I certainly had uptimes monthes past that timeframe. So how is a bug in Windows 95 affecting the FAA in Windows 2000? Can you say FUD? Can you say the FAA is blaming Microsoft for something they most likely screwed up? Knew you could.
And from every admin and user I've worked with and asked, they hate it. Slow, slow, slow, and doesn't respond like they expect. Just because IBM manages to bamboozel some high level execs, doesn't mean it's a good product.

And who the hell do you think actually BUILDs the Space Shuttle and all the other equipment that NASA uses?

Anyone ever note that space shots are only really pressing in nations that want to prove they have ICBM capability?
Which would STILL leave you the problem of getting people/goods to the Earth cheaply. This is a solution in search of a problem.
Sorry, you're asking people to think and reason. Something we have been largely tring not to do since, forever.
The Coming Combat Upgrade will arrive soon. We're waiting on some guy named Godot to deliver it.
Taking responsiblity for your inventions is a bitch.

Opera is the new OS2. Users are few, but they are loud whiney bitches for an inferior product.

Exploitation. Meh. Who is being displaced? The great thing about space is there is a lot of it. Pleanty of room for everything.
Except that current NASA craft are designed to do more than just be there, have multiple back up systems etc.

don't count on it. AbiWord has been hacking at it for years without getting out of beta stage. You're better off trying Open Office for now.

That's great that you have a toolkit. Now, where are the applications written in Java that don't suck? Oh wait, they still don't exist.
