I drive to the local mountains and the desert to camp or for a day trip. I like to see the CHP on the road. The posted maximum speed is 70 MPH and today's roads are designed to have curves which can be safely driven at 80 or 90 MPH. Sometimes the officers must drive faster than normal traffic to find problem drivers .

I saw things at work which were questionable or illegal like my mgr. dumping outdated chemicals into the process at a water treatment plant and falsifying reports to the state regulatory agency. I kept some records and pictures but never said anything about it because I feared that my job would be in jeopardy. One manager was corrupt and a co-worker filed a lawsuit which he won but then had to change jobs, sell his house and move to another city.

  13. A Big Local Government on Ask Slashdot: Who Should Pay Costs To Attend Conferences? · · Score: 1

The employer should pay all costs. Favored groups or departments received better treatment but I wasn't intimidated by a manager who tried to make me pay for and drive my vehicle to attend a great training conference 125 miles away. I got a company car and a gas credit card.

I bought my son a Compaq and he used it until he realized he needed something better. Bryan was a gamer and needed to keep up with his friends and enemies, so when he was about thirteen he bought all the stuff to build a powerful gaming rig. My only contribution was Visa. He assembled the thing in a day and then spent hours finding software to install and doing the set up work. So, then I thought that I need a new PC so we ordered all the same components and he built one for me. I still have a GIGANTIC Antec case on my desk.

  15. I was prepared on Court: Car Dealers Can't Stop Tesla From Selling In Massachusetts · · Score: 2

I used Consumer Reports and other sites to find out what the dealer pays for the truck I bought. The dealer gets money back from the auto maker on every sale too. I was polite but firm in negotiating with the salesman, and the "Let me check with my manager" isn't just a line of BS. It is so the dealer doesn't take a loss from a sales person increasing their commission by making more sales.
