My employer had SCADA sent via a telephone line to some engineer at another location Walt had no idea how the plant operated or what the info he could see meant and could have started or stopped some equipment remotely. One of the telemetry techs allowed a contractor to shut down a 9 million gallon/day lake pump, not a good thing. There wasn't even a password.
Wired had a story about what they thought you would need to send a message that could not be read if intercepted or I guess in this case misdirected. You would have to know a lot about encryption, use the deep web and more. The recipient would need to use the same methods.
"A survey....." by whom? The ITIF: a think tank, "As a result, the mission of the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) is to help policy makers at the federal and state levels to better understand the nature of the new innovation economy and the types of public policies needed to drive innovation, productivity and broad-based prosperity for all Americans." , and "Prior to joining the FCC, Mr. Horrigan was Associate Director, Research, with the Pew Internet & American Life Project for nine years, where he studied the online behavior of broadband internet users, mobile internet users, and consumers of other leading edge information technology.
"Earlier in his career, Horrigan was a staff officer for the Board on Science, Technology, and Economic Policy at the National Research Council. He also served as press secretary and senior legislative assistant to U.S. Congressman Jake Pickle (D-Texas)." QED. Links? look it up.....
In closing, there are unmotivated people in the US? Really?
My employer was trying to deal with another of their decades long political scandals and cast a wide net by ordering all employees to surrender their company email info. I was given a short code to enter that gave SDDPC access to my email and I had nothing to hide besides flirting with a chemist and the usual talk between co-workers. My friend Rob would contact his friends and family in Austria via email. So... a few people were caught up in the political mess but Rob had downloaded porn on the the company PC and was fired. Idiot.
I never used the Co. email for personal stuff again.
According to Aristotle it's OK to do stuff like this. Make a person look like an ass because they do ass-like things in a public place.

No due process in the streets.
That's using a very large broom to sweep up our lives. I would like to know teh number of cases won or terrists in custody from this program. A quick search returns 327,577,529 mobile phones in The US, with a population of 317,874,628 persons.
Care to comment Mr. Snowden?
Labor Unions .
Non members benefit from collective bargaining agreements and enjoy the same work conditions as members (usually?) so unions now have "Agency Fees" that cost less than dues yet are required from employees. Many. non members object to the political spending and lobbying efforts, or are on the health plan of a spouse of parent yet still have to pay.

I drive through "Check Points" on major roads and highways in San Diego County staffed by mostly friendly agents who wave me to proceed on my journey. But I am scanned by an array of sensors, maybe as many as fifteen, two miles ahead of the choke point and another array near their location that is kind of intimidating. By the time I get to their station they know more about me than I do! The sites have "Stadium Lighting" at night that is blinding and destroys night vision. There is no "opt out".
But I enjoy the attention, thank you for protecting me, I guess....
My schedule changed monthly: days working Saturday through Tuesday, another day shift then PM's followed by three PM's and two night shifts, and then a month of nights. My last night shift ended on a Wednesday at 0600 and I returned to day shift the next Saturday at 0600. Only one employee was on duty over 90% of the time.
I was a mental wreck for years from sleeping four hours at a time and my diet suffered as well.
I worked near the US Mexico border and could only connect to a service in Tijuana. Camping in the mountains east of San Diego my fone displayed a message about roaming in Mexico, I wondered if it was a Border Patrol spoof to monitor smugglers as I was 25 or more miles from the border.
Goto settings and disable roaming.
Read Rick Steve's page about an American in Europe and how to use your fone. Roaming, unlocked fones, SIM cards and more.

So, SparkFun can be surprised that a labor intensive process is done in a place that pays employees not very much money? You do the lookup to see what China factory workers earn in a day or week and see how they live. It's nigh impossible to purchase a small appliance or even our favorite tech items that aren't part of this dark and dirty manufacturing scene.
Yeah, of course it does. And nat gas plants, some in Mexico. There is a wind turbine mess nearby that doesn't have wind or produce very much juice. My politicians don't do labor so are likely not gonna build a nuke power plant.
San Onofre (SONGS) is being de-started or un-operated due to a defective heat exchanger.
There's much more to this, later.

My high school math teacher should have been teaching at a university, Jack would fill the room with equations and students had to pay attention to keep up. Algebra, plane geometry, solid geometry, euclidean geometry, matricies, and then Q.E.D.!.
Mr. Del Monte must have found Eric Cartman's Trapper Keeper.

Early company email. I could take back email that had not been read by the recipient. .

Getting to work on the correct day and time was sometimes a challenge but that was the easy part. I had problems with memory.

I just poke the "down" button and jump when the elevator starts moving.

Dear Oil Company, I have a bunch of batteries. And sunshine. And a thing that makes a light bulb go on. Piss off .
Easy now, play nice. People some different things see.
