How many 90+ hour/week engineers do you think they would have to lay off after losing the software development subsidy embedded in the cost of Macs? Truth is, we would not have OS X without Macs. OS X will not move forward without Macs, it's an economic impossibility. And as much of an open source fan I am, open sourcing Mac OS X would not cause it to evolve. Mutate, perhaps.

I agree that 256MB is not enough to run OS X and more than 2 apps at a time. Heck, even 2GB wasn't enough to keep some free space for me.
I do however think it is better that Apple sells the mini with 256MB.
First, it gives people on a budget an option. If their money means more to them than their time, they can go that route.
Second, I would only favor 512MB in the mini if they keep the $499 price. If they were to charge the standard Apple robbery for extra RAM, I'd rather buy the mini with 256MB, and get RAM elsewhere for less than the difference Apple would probably charge for a 512MB stock machine, and install it myself.
As far as the Combo/Super drive issue, you really have to consider that the mini is also positioned as an add-on for the iPod. A Combo drive is sufficient for burning CDs, although it probably falls short when it comes to backing up a music library. I do however believe you can find SuperDrives to self-install.
Nobody will develop for it? Balderdash. As long as it stays as simple as ticking a checkbox to get a Universal Binary (in case you've not read, that's where the same file executes on either architecture), I don't see why any app developer would choose to blatantly ignore the vast majority of the installed base, which is going to be PPC for quite some time to come.
The 120mm is a one-hit kill in BF2, done it plenty myself. The trick is knowing how to aim, which if you try to do it the same way as DC or '42, you won't actually hit.
He said "Conclusive proof that if Mac OS X were as popular as Windows, it would be rooted just as much", that makes it speculation. In particular, the if and were are the operative words that make it speculation.
Here's my speculation:
If Mac OS X were as popular as Windows, security leaks would continue to get patched by Apple 2-6 months sooner than Microsoft patches its leaks, hence the opportunity to root these hypothetical Mac boxes is significantly reduced.
Apple has done no such thing. They have been quite open about saying they thought Konquerer was the best place to start, and they would provide the source for any of their changes. They never said they would be a "active participant" in the KHTML project.
It's posts like this that give some creedence to Microsoft's "viral" accusations about the GPL community. Now you guys aren't bitching about people using code without re-sharing it, instead, "they're not re-sharing it the way we think they should". People with this view need a serious reality check.
Just because the Konquerer guys can't be bothered to run diff I don't see how that is Apple's problem.
I think it's safe to say comments are for the benefit of those who have not assimilated their language, their APIs, etc. Sure, documenting interfaces is essential as well as how certain data structures are used as well as how certain events can interact.
Conversely though, most of the other comments I have seen are completely superfluous and only enhance the understanding of the uninitiated.

I believe the point is that Spotlight is an evolution of an Apple technology that existed prior to M$ even conceiving WinFS, contrary to your earlier statement that Apple were copying M$.

I beg to differ. Clearly the biggest advantage is that your vehicle is less prone to collision.
Some sandals.

Everything I've read is saying Apple obtains the G5 ships for less than the going rate for comparable Pentium chips.
People who want to avoid the v.1 bloodbath which no doubt will come with the first Macintels.
PS This topic was covered everywhere else last week.
I guess all forms of commerce will be suspected as criminal since our sales@mydomain email address fits that pattern of use.
sorry testing to see if my subnet is still banned. damn trolls

I've been at 50 for over 2 years, perhaps even 3; I do not need to Karma whore.
I got a "form expired" error from slashcode, although it seems to have accepted the post anyway. I hit reply again to repost, hence the double post.
Well, I'm not a mod, but here's your response. You cannot "prove" speculation.

Uh, yeah I didn't get that call you see because unfortunately, I drained my celly battery listening to Kraftwerk.
Wow, a [probable] M$-paid shill said it, therefore it must be true.

OH MY GOD! Memtest86 has forked...now Linux is doomed to fragmentation.
just kidding.
Thanks for the information.

I think a 200g shock while operating is pretty much equivalent to immune, as long as you aren't rock climbing when you drop your iPod, that is.
