It takes energy to have the headlights on. That energy comes from burning gas. A car would get slightly better mileage when driving with the headlights off.
However it is a bad example, I would keep the headlights on for safety reasons anyway, and most (if not all) newer cars have daylight running lights which are always on.
There could be something to this. I'm from Canada and I visited England a couple of years ago. I was shocked at how much people drink there. I don't know if there are stats on this anywhere, but I would say that on average people drink 4 or 5 times (or more) as much as here. But of course, my observations where completely unscientific, with a very small sample size!:)
I don't think it's so simple. Google seems to be very commercialized. If you are trying to find reviews about a product, Google's top results always point at retailers selling the product. I find that other search engines will point you towards review sites and other third party info, rather than to marketing sites.
It's been like that for years on blank CD's here (Canada). Doesn't matter if your backing up your computer files to CD or copying music, you pay the same tax on blank media.
It's not just the initial load time.. for me, the biggest annoyance is getting past all the logos and cut scenes and stupid menus before being able to play the actual game. I don't think they would let you play space invaders while their copyright info and crap is being force fed to you. Maybe I'm old, but I miss the days of Atari 2600, where you could go from cold start to playing the game in like 3 seconds.
You have obviously never watched Judge Judy.
Also gmail itself has pretty good search built in.
In Soviet Russia... oh never mind.
There's finally a use for the Evil Bit.
I need to be notified of the breach, and I need to be notified *before* it happens.
Again? I've been hearing that this is the year of the Linux desktop since 1996!
And for you Windows users who don't get the joke! ;)

Their mice and keyboards aren't bad.
As a regular watcher of "Law and Order" and "CSI: Miami", I can assure you that the law does not work that way.
Unless Dell uses some proprietary binary drivers to make that hardware work.

I think I would be kind of nervous to ride the gbus (beta).

If your Slashdot posts were off by an hour, then you'd be panicing.

Oh crap, it sounds like they are planning to attack Canada!

But there is *a lot* of social stigma! :)

You must be new here.
Apple does make software for Windows, and it does behave as the grandparent describes.
I can't wait to tell a pretty young nurse to Shake her butyrate.
Also, 40% of sick days happen on Mondays and Fridays.
Actually, to be honest, I'm shocked that 5 out of 5 bosses don't lie.
When I saw this line, I wondered if Steve Jobs wrote the article.
