Personally, I think we really NEED to get on with building space colonies. We could do it together like we did the International space station. Each nation involved could build sections. Working together we can do it!
One way to save costs would be to let our allies in on our research. If India and Japan got the lead over china in space research it might indirectly help us. Also it would help us by cutting costs.
Personally, I feel that nasa should become more like the FAA, in that it regulates companies doing business in space. Rather than doing actual launching itself. That way less people on government payroll the better.
Perhaps those other security companies will focus on their other products. For example, once this get's implemented they could redirect those resources for other purposes.
What I was thinking would be really interesting, is seeing different perspectives of the same thing. For example, seeing an asteriod hit mars from a rover's perspective, a satellite perspective, and from near earth perspective. I also think this will make it easier to track earth bound asteriods.
Personally, I wish in U.S. we would filter more of the information that comes our way. I mean do we really need those nigeria email scams? By the way, I know someone who's computer got a virus by his friend looking at porn on the internet. Personally, I would rather they filter the stuff then have to see it and have to deal with it.
I think it would good if they did form a space agency. I hope it would work with the NASA, and perhaps other ones as well. I think if a bunch of nations got together and shared the burden we could get into space a whole lot sooner.
I've been thinking that bug-zilla could be used for other uses as well. For example, I work at a resort. Instead of having a paper to keep track of all the "bug" ie maintence issues perhaps a system like bugzilla would be better. I'm thinking of stuyding computer science, after I get done with my business administration degree. Another thing is that if I use an already existing program, then the company can't come after me for the rights to if it I modify it.
Another idea, is after the ISS station is done, perhaps we could do a similiar thing with a moonbase. With the U.S. taking the lead, and other nations taking supportive roles. That would be less costly then doing it ourselves. For example, if India, and Japan went in with us, it would help them improve their programs, and we might be able to do it faster.
Continuing on that idea if India and Japan were to help us on our next generation spacecraft, it might get the next generation spacecraft ready sooner at less expense. For example, if they loaned us some engineers or perhaps some monetary contribution to do help with the development. They could get access to plans and other things from us.

Another thing is I think the next generation rocket technology was good. The shuttle when it came out was really new technology. If it had been mass produced it would have saved us a ton on money.

You know too bad microsoft couldn't allow ps3 users to use xbox live. It would be interesting playing with people who had a ps3.
