I fail to see how the UAC was a problem. It's really no different than dropping to root in linux, except it's more convenient. It's there for a reason, and it can be disabled if you don't want to monitor programs running with admin privileges.
Just noticed you used a mac. Explains a lot.
No. my original point was that your point was flawed as it failed to take prepaid cards into consideration. So they aren't necessarily dumb for using it if they do it right. And then you go into a spiel about other countries and the year 2011, neither of which is relevant at this point in time.
I never even implied that your projected outlawing of prepaid cards had anything to do with the RIAA. I have not been thinking "merry mouse-and-cat chases with the RIAA." You will find no text to indicate such. If you do, I suggest you re-read.
Ah, so that's how your 'projection' of prepaid credit cards not working after [insert arbitrary date here] comes into play. Well I project that on December 31, 2009, BitTorrent clients will be entirely illegal across the world, and anyone caught with one will face the death penalty. Rapidshare is looking good now, isn't it?
They've worked for everything I've needed them for online or offline. Also, your 'projection' is meaningless, and I could give a shit about what can be purchased in other countries.
a godwin already?
also, maybe we should hand it over and let britain and australia and maybe even saudi arabia and china censor our internet for us too! great idea!
What is the point of buying back stock? To drive up the price of the stock, that is all. it doesn't give you anything else, and it can be a waste of money, more an idea if you can't think of anything else to do with the money.
It's also a good idea if you really believe it to be underpriced, as when it goes up, you can sell it again and...man...one thread about microsoft stocks and everyone is a prodigy CEO all of a sudden, even though they have no idea what they're talking about.
You should probably just stick to your guns, finance not being one of them. There is a huge difference between the practices of AIG and the like and leveraging a few billion dollars out of what is now nearly 30. No parallel whatsoever. And like Geoffrey said, debt is cheap right now. And that, coupled with Microsoft's obviously high bond rating means you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.
This comes just days after the MAFIAA turned down a WoTC proposal to merge, forming a new entity that would have been dubbed the 'MAFAG,' short for 'Music and Film and Games.' Former RIAA president Cary Sherman was quoted as saying 'fuck you, we damn near committed corporate suicide with shit like that.'
And Megan's Law is never applied here in the US to people who peed outside or had sex with their 17 year old girlfriend while he was 18.
Child porn laws are never turned on children who photograph themselves.
But what difference does it make? It's for teh childres!!
We might as well just go ahead and do away with it now, so people will stop thinking it still applies or protects them in some way. All it does is cause confusion among those who have the audacity to believe that the bill of rights still matters.
Twelve voices were shouting in anger, and they were all alike. No question, now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

Sounds like last weekend tbh.
Developed which will!
Really, slashdot?

So if they're about to take away our 'gift' cards and start tracking down everybody who uses rapidshare, what makes you think BT is any safer?
Again, you're disregarding prepaid credit cards that leave no such trail. You are aware it's nearly 2010 correct?

nobody's saying it's inscrutable. we just don't think it should be scrutinized in favor of magic.

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is apparently "Others." I've seen the plans even. The name of the database is "Potential Criminals."
how cute...someone thinks the bill of rights actually still means something.
I hereby take those termed "netbooks" and dub them "subnotebooks." Next order of business.
Surely this is a prank of some sort. Nobody could really be...like that?
This clearly means that Windows supports terror. If you buy windows, you might too.
