Exactly.. they got rid of people which automatically meant others had to do the work those people were previously doing. Which means the others were more productive. Being more productive means you should get paid more, but that part never seems to happen because in their opinion they got the technology for you to do more work and get paid the same. In other words, they kept all the benefits.
I tried to install Linux on an old Macook once. Bought a nice big flash drive to boot off of and everything. I found out that Macbooks don't like that, and I quickly gave up.
When they got rid of the receptionist in the office and gave me part of her work did my salary go up? No. When they got rid of local HR and gave me an email address I could use, did my salary go up? No. When I started to do three times as much work because technology got better, did my salary go up? No. . If I applied for a job in a different company that had already done these things would they pay me more? No.
What would lead anyone to believe the workers will get anything out of automation but more work to do for the same pay and just to be thankful for a job.
If the economy was doing well, wages would be going up. I'm speaking for almost all Americans here, and good reliable well paying jobs that aren't based on a term or a gig, and don't go away the year after you start working there. The stock market means very little to the average person unless they're ready to cash out all theri retirement savings right now.
The fact is, if you want to do those stops with an ICE you can still do those stops with an ICE. Buying an EV forces you to do those stops, which we don't tend to do as a family. We don't find it terribly rewarding to stop at some restaurant in some small town and spend more money.
So you think... but from what I'm hearing, gas has some unique physical properties that are tricky to get around. Maybe one day we will be able to fill an EV in 5 minutes but that seems to be a long way off.
That's the point. Do whatever makes you happy. In this study they found that people tended to keep doing the job they had that gave them the life they wanted instead of suddenly taking up farming.
Why does it matter to you? Your "efforts" will be making you far more money and a far more comfortable life. The UBI payment they get is basically just enough to keep them from robbing you.
You have brought up some good reasons why past attempts of communism had failed. Unfortunately for the people who read the whole thing, this has nothing to do with UBI, nor does it rule out different implementations.
No it isn't. I still have to spend the money to get benefit from that, I want the money to SPEND.

UBI in Rome was simply a mechanism the wealthy slave owners used to keep the masses from arming themselves and coming for them.
Well fortunately we have people like you to educate us about the mistakes made in history so we aren't bound to repeat them.
Not as long as they are part of a market where they "have to" make more profit.
America doesn't have a huge welfare program already?

Aww it's like a baby Skynet fighting desperately for its life.

My wife who was saved by "socialist medicine" twice begs to differ with you.
If only I was a terrible parent, my kids may be rich.

The meek shall inherit the earth.
Have you ever taken a cruise? More like $200 for WiFi.
So you think... but from what I'm hearing, gas has some unique physical properties that are tricky to get around. Maybe one day we will be able to fill an EV in 5 minutes but that seems to be a long way off.
If mine was that big, I wouldn't be humble.
You must be European.
All I'm saying is if there are going to be nude videos of me, I'd better be benefiting from them. Not some person who I don't even know.
That's why we have people who have mansions, boats, cars, etc etc and still aren't happy.
Why are people always so concerned with what 'others' are getting. It doesn't matter to you.
That's the point. Do whatever makes you happy. In this study they found that people tended to keep doing the job they had that gave them the life they wanted instead of suddenly taking up farming.
I don't even understand why we are discussing this, when the whole point of the article is that people are just as productive with UBI as without it.
Why does it matter to you? Your "efforts" will be making you far more money and a far more comfortable life. The UBI payment they get is basically just enough to keep them from robbing you.
Yet as someone mentioned before, this study proves that UBI does not remove the incentive to work. What do you have against people being happy?
