  1. Re:Confusing on Nvidia Unveils Powerful New RTX 2070 and 2080 Graphics Cards (polygon.com) · · Score: 2

I'm just referring to a comment higher up. I asked if the 1080s were coming down in price and someone asked why I would buy 2 year old technology. Honestly, I know technology but I don't build a gaming PC very often. I am now in the market for one but AI and cryptocurrency have really messed up the GPU market. I'm a bit lost. Guess I need to read a lot more articles.

  2. So what AMD card would you recommend for VR? PCMag seems to only recommend nvidia chipsets.

  3. Re:2080 no threat to 1080 on Nvidia Unveils Powerful New RTX 2070 and 2080 Graphics Cards (polygon.com) · · Score: 1

The last time I put a gaming PC together was a long time ago; maybe even 10 years. But a premium video card back then was around $400 CDN. I guess those days are just over.

  4. So what kind of card can do VR that will drop in price as new overkill cards come out? Cards can't keep going up forever.

  5. So what is newer and better than a 1080 but doesn't have such prospective features?

  6. Shopping for a video card is more confusing then ever. If a 1080 is "too old", but these cars are overkill and have features games may not even get, what the hell to buy?

  7. Ray tracing is for lighting in games, so given that I said I wanted to play games with it, why would you tell me these cards aren't for me?

  8. I guess I'm confused, because the low end of this card is cheaper than a 1080, yet I'm told that the 1080 is a two year old card. When I go to pcmag for good cards for VR they list 1080,1070,1060. You are saying this card is different some how and will not lower the price of the 1080?

  9. So, out of interest, who would use a card like this?

  10. Also I know I've bought 'good graphics cards for the time' in the past and they cost more around $300 not $600.

  11. Capable of any game on the market with the graphics quality on high.

  12. I want a card that will be capable of any game on the market for the next year or so and can do VR.

  13. If I buy a card that works for me for $299 versus a card that works for me for $599 I'm saving money because they both work for me.

  14. Because I don't want to spend 54% more for a new card? I thought 1080's were already over priced.

Yes, it does matter how much you get paid. Maybe some people like going to another person's house or business to sit on the floor for hours, but you would have to pay me a lot more to do that.

  16. Have 1080's come down?

  17. Unless you're talking about a Trump supporter. Most of them can't remember this morning.

OMG, they do the same thing as 'corrupt' taxi drivers??

  20. When I go to the hospital, should I pay a fee to support experimental drugs? No, the drug is proven to work with a serious of studies and then I cover that cost if I need it. Same thing should be done with SDCs.

All of the above; as we are renovating our whole house. I'd say they're comfortable, but they're not driving new vehicles around. Low-middle class to dead center middle class. Not upper middle class.

  22. I say again. After tax breaks and all other leaching, does it really make sense for us to allure these huge companies to cities if there is no net benefit for the city?

If the younger generation can find enough well paying jobs to rent a self driving car. They won't be more efficient than taxis. They will have new car prices + tech prices + insurance + maintenance + accident coverage + corporate profits. Even with self driving they will be around as much as a taxi today if not more, and I don't see the young affording taxis every day.

Private car ownership is here to stay. My wife has all her stuff in our car, she hates readjusting the seat after I have been in it, we don't want to clean it out after every time we use it. Receipts go in the glove compartment and stay there until we need them. When she gets heavy things from Home Depot the staff load the vehicle then they need to stay there until I am free to bring them into the house. We carefully selected the vehicle we have because it has the right environment for us. The only way people will want to use someone else's car is if it costs a little more than a bus or around the same price as an Uber. We know Uber is losing money on each ride right now. A self driving fleet will need to meet the demands of rush hour and sunny weekends yet sit idle most of the time. People who use these fleets will still be paying for cars to sit idle. It's not going to work.
