  1. Business? on Terra Soft Releases 64-bit Yellow Dog Linux · · Score: 1

Does anybody know how these guys stay in business? They seem to have free downloads, and I can't see any support packages that they charge for. (à la Red Hat)

Is this a business or just a bunch of volunteers? I'm not trolling here, it's just a question.

  2. 1.0.7?? What about 1.1PR? on Firefox 1.0.3 and Mozilla Suite 1.7 Released · · Score: 0

1.1 PR should be already out by now? What gives?

Check out the Firefox Roadmap to see what I mean.

  3. PG-13! on Star Wars Episode 3 PG-13? · · Score: 2, Funny

You will probably mod me down, but...

Finally, Nathalie Portman in a Hot Gritz scene!

  4. Making electricity? on Old Hard Drives = Free Electricity · · Score: 4, Funny

Actually, I think the story is incorrect. You can't *really* make electricity from these magnets. You still need wind or water to turn the magnets. They don't make electricity on their own.

Uh oh...obligitory Simpsons quote coming on...

"Lisa, In this house we obey the laws of Thermodynamics"
    - Homer after Lisa builds a perpetual motion machine that goes faster and faster.

  5. Pascal is good, Kylix would be great! on GNU Pascal Compiler Released For Mac OS X · · Score: 1

I'm happy that for us pascal junkies, that pascal is finally becoming available for OS X. What would really be impressive, however, would be if Borland got it's act together and released the Delphi Kylix toolkit

Kylix is already a great cross-platform tool for Windows and Linux Object Oriented Pascal development. Making it available for Macs would make it definitely more competitive with the QT toolkit which is cross platform for Windows, Linux and OS X!

So to make a long rant short, I'm not jumping for joy just yet.

  6. Confllict with Apple Records? on Apple to Launch Music Service? · · Score: 5, Interesting

I seem to remember Apple having difficulties working as a media business when another older company, Apple Records (The Beatles), is still around. Perhaps they have worked something out.

  7. Re:Multiple browser testing on Mozilla Project Hurt by Apple's Decision to use KH · · Score: 1

More to the point, why would anyone need to? I do web development. I test against the W3C implementation. I don't care what browser you use. It doesn't matter. All you need is a W3C compliant browser.

Well, I guess that's all and good if you don't care what your customers are using. If I write a page, and it looks ugly in IE even though it's W3C compliant, then that is a problem. If you don't test your HTML in other browsers, then I think you are living in la-la land hoping that everything works out fine.

  8. Re:Only useful in certain environments on My Segway HT "Month-iversary" · · Score: 1

Also, I think the Segway is only useful in a moderately warm year-round climate like California or Vancouver.

I don't see myself using this thing when it's -10 outside or if there's snow on the sidewalk.

  9. Now if only.... on RandR Support on XFree86 4.3 · · Score: 0, Flamebait

Now if only I could change the monitor resolution of my linux box without editing a text file....

  10. Re:some notes I had on Preview of Mac OS X 10.2 · · Score: 1

    Hey,

What system are you running on? My guess is that you're using Quartz extreme on a pretty heavy duty computer. I wonder if there will be similar speed updates for

  11. I have a Newton..but now I have a Palm.. on Paul Guyot Releases ATA driver for NewtonOS · · Score: 1

I used to use my Newton exclusively, but now I am the proud owner of a Palm. ATA supported or not, my Newton is really cool, except for the fact it sucks battery power like mad and its handwriting recognition was awful for people like me who write lots of acronyms. (plus it was big) Did you know that the Newton can play like regular, recorded sounds as opposed to the cheap-o MIDI supported on Palm? I'm not sure how important this whole ATA thing will be -- it's difficult to get Newton rechargable batteries anymore as well as other Newton peripherals....my palm is smaller *and* is still supported so that's what I think is important. Anyone want to buy a used Newton ;) ? My 2 cents..
