PHP Upload Arbitrary File Disclosure Vulnerability

PHP's handling of uploads means that PHP applications can be manipulated into opening arbitrary files on the server, rather than those uploaded by the user. This may permit a remote user to read any file located on the server which is readable by a user of the server's privilege level.

  8. Why normal computers can't simulate quantum ones. on IBM Develops Quantum Computer · · Score: 1

I think you can find the answer in Roger Penrose's "The Emperor's New Mind".

The main point of that book is that a computer will never be able to "think" like a human. He demonstrate this in a very mathematical way, using Turing machines. This part of the book is very "mathematical" and its conclusions must be regarded as true.

The second part of the book is more speculative, where Penrose speculates human brains work with quantum physics principles.

There's another book where Penrose and Stephen Hawkings discuss his point of view.

  10. Aureal kind of disappointed me on Is Aureal Dead? · · Score: 1

I was a strong suporter of Aureal hardware, I bought the original Monster Sound Card, the MX80, the MX200 and last the MX300. The first two were an easy choice, but when I got the MX300 they had a strong competition from Creative.

One of the reasons I picked the MX300 instead of the Creative, was that Aureal promised the MX300 would play EAX (the creative format) in a short time. Then I needed Linux drivers, and they also promised them.

One year later I wrote them about their promises, and told me both were going to be realized in a few months. Eventually they did, but at that moment I wasn't as happy with them like I had.

    Who Invented It?

It is commonly believed that the Internet came into existence as part of the United State's government's nuclear war fighting strategy. Originally conceived as a robust and fast communications network called the ARPAnet (Advanced Research Project Association Network), it was designed to help scientists and technology researchers communicate, in fact, it was created in direct response to the Soviet Unions launch of Sputnik, the first man made satellite. It was part of a whole series of initiatives taken by the US government to enhance science and technology development. Later, the multi-routed and redundant telecommunications lines, switches, and computers were discovered by the military, to be an ideal network to prevent Command Control 'de-capitation,' in the event of a Soviet 'first strike' against the continental US. source
