Well, you had the misfortune of living in Great Britain during a famously depressed time. The early 80's were a very difficult time for Britain, as Thatcher rose to power.

You took your experiences from a country that was going through a recession as an example of the failure of socialism. You can also say that the American system has failed many times as well ( late 80's? Reaganomics backfiring?) You fail to mention any of the countries where certain degrees of socialism exist and enjoy popularity with their citizens. They're not just in Europe, either. Costa Rica, for example, has a very spirited form of socialism.

Contrary to popular belief (which is due to horribly misinformed opinions like yours), socialism and private enterprise are not mutually exclusive, and when done right becomes a more equitable system.

Dincha see that episode of Star Trek where they find the planet engulfed in global war, moderated by a computer? The computers simulated the attacks, and randomly selected members of the population for vaporisation. This was, in the episode, that planet's way of conducting 'clean' warfare, all the losses without all the destruction. Imagine that, sort of like the Neutron bomb, which vaporises living things, but leaves buildings standing. What does this say about us? That we'd rather preserve physical objects than lives...

When Gore said this, he was in fact referring to his role in sponsoring legislation that opened the net up to the general public, in this sense, his statement ( which you are actually misquoting ), was in fact accurate. He did sponsor and push very hard for all the necessary legislation that opened the net.

You have no idea what socialism is at all, do you? The Democrats are about as socialist as Bill Gates. Socialism takes many forms, not all of them have much to do with Marx at all. The Scandinavian countries, France, Ireland, and others have socialist systems, and they are not even remotely Marxist.

What are these so-called 'socialist' programs that you speak of? You mean something that's run by the government? Like the DMV? The Army? The SEC? What on earth are you talking about?

I find that some conservatives, mainly the uneducated saps who fall prey to very right-wing propaganda that calls anything run by a state or federal government 'socialist'. By that token, George W. Bush is a hardcore socialist, with the Texas CHIPS program, which attempts to provide uninsured people with health care. I guess that must be a socialist program. The Internet itself was born out of one of these 'socialist' schemes.

I am convinced that you must be very ignorant indeed to suggest that any one of the two major parties support anything even approaching socialism, dumbass.

The Chinese do not have the ability to mount an invasion that would require them to cross the Pacific. Their entire fleet would be wiped out by the US and British before they got anywhere near Hawaii.

I think I can safely say that a Chinese invasion is *very* unlikely.
