Oh I don't have the anti-politician bent of the poster I was responding to. I agree with you, talking is better than fighting. I was simply attacking the use of the politican-as-villain meme that is so prevalent here, as well as the "in the olden days everyone was virtuous and true" meme.
I feel that those who represent us in this country have long ago forgotten the best interests of those they serve, the People, or more correctly, have just decided that it's more profitable serving Corporations and sacrificing essential freedoms for temporary security and monetary reward.
I would like to point out that if you are anyone other than a white male in this country, you currently enjoy far more freedom than at any point in our country's history.
We must abolish the Federal Government as it currently stands and return to the ideals of the Founding Fathers on which they attempted to create a nation: The Inalienable Rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
The problem is that there is a politician in the White House, instead of a Citizen-Servant who is First Among Equals, not elevated to the status of Royalty
The only president we've ever had who arguably wasn't a politician is, and this is just arguable, was George Washington. Everybody after him has been a politician.
No one should have the right to restrict my freedom to do as I wish so long as I do not materially harm another human being.
Alright, this is NOT what the Founding Fathers believed in. If this is what you want, fine, I actually agree that ideally this should be the goal of our society (though I would add "harm another living thing unnecessarily"), but our Founding Fathers would NOT agree with this.
In my opinion, Marbury v. Madison was a terrible ruling, and the beginning of the American decline. Without that ruling, it would have been up to the people to police Congress, and the level of apathy we see today would have never been attained.
That may have once been true, but not anymore. I have heard very convincing arguments that all the strife in Iran is basically a cloaked military coup. Now I don't think Ahmadinejad has absolute power, but he certainly has enough so that the Supreme Leader can't lightly remove him.
They're pretty fun, I've had one for a couple of years now and I'm still not bored of it. They handle really well though the engine isn't that powerful, so not sure whether that would get even worse moving to electric.
Last week HR submitted a trouble ticket for me to write the invitation to the office holiday party... and I'm not even part of IT! The IT head printed out the ticket and brought it to my office. We laughed, but deep down inside, I wanted to cry.
Have some mercy on those IT guys. Have you ever seen them try to write? It's like a train wreck.
I know even at the retail places you can get cartridges for certain no-longer-manufactured printers for ridiculously low prices. Anyone know what printer made today has the lowest cost for replacement ink?
Pure arrogance. Like they could ever get even a majority of talent in their field. Google does almost nothing in a wide spectrum of cutting edge computer engineering. And plenty of people would rather have the prestige (and lighter schedule) you get in academia.
A shocking turn of events, you actually want to cheer for Microsoft this time as Implicit is nothing more than a patent licensing company (troll) and has done battle with Sun, AMD, Intel and NVIDIA."
Well I've been using Linux since 1979, and the documentation has never been that great. I remember asking Linus and some of the other developers about it when I ran into them at Studio 54, but they were too stoned to answer. Man, it was crazy back then, you'd get high and write a program and you wouldn't even care about the documentation. You'd just copy over someone else's man pages, or paste in Beegees lyrics, or whatever you're drug-addled brain came up with at the time.
Bush didn't create the bad guys by labeling them, they were bad, he just gave us a sign.
In the late 90s/early 2000s, the opposition in Iran grew stronger. After 9/11, there was a demonstration in Tehran AGAINST terrorism.
After labeling Iran an axis of evil, the theocrats and revolutionary guard were able to more easily crush dissent and foment anti-Americanism.

Come on, you'd stray too if you had to wake up to this every morning.

Those patent trolls...
Jefferson seems to have not been quite a fan of revolutions 20 years after he said that, at which point he was the president.
Why not have a pc / netbook that can do more for about the same cost?
Because PCs/netbooks don't have e-ink screens.
In my opinion, Marbury v. Madison was a terrible ruling, and the beginning of the American decline. Without that ruling, it would have been up to the people to police Congress, and the level of apathy we see today would have never been attained.
In other words, mob rule. Awesome.
Why downgrade?
Aww I'm just messing with you all. Anyone who had a genuine emotional reaction to the above needs to go outside right now and recommune with nature.
I bet I could make a smaller one.
How did you do that?
To have pride in your liberty it must cost something, you must have earned it.
Are you American? If so, have you earned your liberty?
That may have once been true, but not anymore. I have heard very convincing arguments that all the strife in Iran is basically a cloaked military coup. Now I don't think Ahmadinejad has absolute power, but he certainly has enough so that the Supreme Leader can't lightly remove him.
You might be able to find some suggestions on how to fix that on Gopher.
If you are going to post something you KNOW you shouldn't post, use a proxy from a country like China or Russia.
Or you could just try not to blackmail people.
Ehhh, not really. If you have a judgment from UK courts you might be able to get it enforced here, but injunctive relief is a lot trickier.

There is also a correlation between wealth and access to technology. And a correlation between wealth and literacy.
I know even at the retail places you can get cartridges for certain no-longer-manufactured printers for ridiculously low prices. Anyone know what printer made today has the lowest cost for replacement ink?
Lighter schedule? In academia? You are kidding, right?
Nope. Once you get out of the grad student box you have more free time than the majority of employees in high-tech companies.

I am just kind of shocked people were complaining about me trolling...

Please don't tell me what I want to do.
