In this instance i think BP qualifies as big/powerful enough to satisfy the bloodlust. People don't want to waste their energy going after two monsters when its so easy to target one that's already widely hated.
We know that it's a reusable craft/frame, but how much (if any) of it is original parts?
I imagine that the shuttle has been torn, gutted, refitted, retrofitted, and modernized many times over the 25 years. You think there's anything on the it that still has "matching serials?"
I'll agree with you completely, as I typically cringe when hearing the word, but I think it applies well to what ELF does. I apologize that I cant presently think of a better suited word.
Still, ELF/ALF and similar organizations do participate in illegal actions, with the intention or end goal of intimidating or striking fear into the minds of people that do not share their convictions. What should we call them?
Destroying private property with the intent of intimidating or scaring the owners or inhabitants is serious business. How can you trivialize this? This is terrorism. I don't think its possible for a sane person to rationalize this as OK.
I've heard of ELF firebombing Hummer vehicles and sabataging development projects. Granted, the owners of H2's tend to be extreme douches, but attacking them is silly and in no way helpful to their supposed cause. Stunts like these are potentially dangerous. All it takes is one absent minded (or overzealous) person to accidentally kill a person while meddling with the tools they've been know to use.
And if they did kill a person? They probably would justify it somehow. ELF and PETA are ridiculous because they fight for animal rights while totally ignoring that humans have rights of their own too...
They do this so they can keep you under a maintenance contract. And there are other things to be weary of as well.
Companies like Xerox and Ikon also provide copier leasing services. We have about 10 of them on site here; all of them leased. When our contract is done, they take the copiers. Who knows what they do with the hard drives from there...
There are benefits tho. Not our property, not on our list of assets, which is a huge tax savings. The lease agreement includes no-charge service calls and all the toner and consumable supplies we need at no additional cost. When they get old, we don't have to throw anything out. Just renew the contract and get another set of copiers delivered.
Conning smart people isn't necessarily easier or harder... It just requires a different approach.
Talk to professional salesmen in the auto or finance industries. The good ones will tell you that a customer (victim) is powerless in the hands of an expert closer.
I would argue that Google takes risks on innovation not because they "have the balls," but because they MUST do so to survive.
Right now advertising makes up over 90 percent of all their profit. Being an innovative tech company, they understand that someone will eventually find a way to beat Google in the advertising business..or at least strongly compete. They need to take huge risks in order to find their next profit stream. If they cannot do this soon they will be taken dismantled by their competitors.
True. There is much more at stake than just cash for google.
I only harp on this because Google is notorious for developing/funding great products and services that fail to monetize. For now, thats completely fine as their advertising business creates enough cash to keep their business going. It gives them the freedom to take risks, experiment and innovate..and be nice. But they can't continue like this forever. Eventually another competitor will sneak in on Google's territory. When that happens Google will need other *proven* revenue streams.
Currently, Android OS is somewhat a benevolent project here to spread "goodness" to all. Hopefully that can translate into profit for such an amazing company before they must resort to "evil" money hungry tactics to survive.
Customers may not care, but I'm sure Google itself cares. Google is a money making business, so sooner or later Android has to make money for them or they will need to drop it. If Google can't prove its a profitable platform, then cell phone manufacturers will have less desire to build products for Android, as they too are in the business of making money.
Customers may love Android (and they do) but it has to be a proven moneymaker for it to continue.
QuickClot is great but typically not so hot for "civillian" purposes. I've been told that it burns like hell when applied...not to mention there are risks involved with using it.
It's great for military use because a soldier typically becomes wounded and incapacitated during combat. Spending precious time to stop the bleeding isn't an option when you have automatic gunfire streaming overhead and mortars falling around you.
When you receive an injury in a non-combat environment(camping, hiking, or hunting)you typically arent going to be under the same wartime pressures that require QuickClot. Provided you are conscious you will have the ability to render first aid on yourself in a much safer manner. If your cognizant enough to put on QuickCloth, you are cognizant enough to put on a bandage and apply pressure.
The PC will stick around for some time, but the profitability of retailing them could disappear. If technology is taking the route described in the article, companies will be making computers just so the customer has access to the content.
I imagine it being similar to Sony and MS selling their game consoles at a loss, just so they can get the customer to buy the content that runs on those platforms.
Adding a little bit here. 8 billion US dollars is more than a fair price for the company when its current market cap is around 2 billion. If Apple is making a real bid, ARM's board of directors will be taking this offer very seriously as it will greatly benefit its shareholders.
Your google finance search yielded results of an ADR...Its a stock listing of a foreign company on the American stock exchanges(NASDAQ to be precise). You can look at ARM's listed stock price in its native market and it will be different.
Newton's initial sales were just as disappointing as its all time sale. Still a bad comparison.
The ipad IS successful. The fact that companies are rushing to make an equivalent already proves this. It also uses the same retail platform as the iphone, which has been around for a few years now and it still hasn't died. Support for the ipad's success is here. Evidence of its success is already here. Name one cell phone, computer, or similar device that sold 300,000 times over on the first day that was considered a failure.
What puzzles me is that such a large number of competent tech savvy people (slashdot) will complain about Apple so loudly when its blatantly obvious that the products apple creates aren't inteded for them in the first place. There is no need to submit to or recognize Apple's 1984ish tactics. It just isn't an issue. All we have to do, as angry slashdotters, is turn our attention to a different product. Let others buy the iPad and be happy with it.
To me it seems the distaste of Apple by slashdotters stems from the fact that "cool" tech stuff is no longer exclusive to geeks or people with strong technical prowess. Big ego drain for the tech savvy slashdotters.
we'd rather side with adobe than apple on this? On one side we have Adobe products with gigantic unsecured attack surfaces for viruses and malware causing countless dollars lost in downtime and labor. On the other we have Apple creating a product their customers demand????

That would be neat to know.

Freedom fighters? or Criminals?

How is it relevant ? The goodness of something doesn't rely on the amount of money you make out of it.
It does when you are COMPARING marketshare of two companies that are in the business of making money.
Yes...Great news hearing their android marketshare has increased. Now compare profitability... Has that changed any?
Does anyone know the profitability of Android OS?
How much money has Google made with having Android on all the phone platforms? How much money has been made by Apple Inc. selling all their iphone's?

um, wasn't Catholicism the original christian religion from which all demonimations of christianity derived?
What is in the inhaled mixture of an e-cig other than the nicotine? Anyone know by chance?

AHAHA! Are you comparing the newton to the ipad?
The newton sold 50000 in 1993. Ipad sold over 300,000 ON ITS FIRST WEEKEND.
The ipad IS successful. Period.
