Similar in Arizona. Red light camera's will trigger once you enter the intersection AFTER the light is red. If you are in the middle waiting to take a left hand turn there is no issue.
In arizona, most red light camera intersections have a painted red line several yards ahead of the crosswalk lines. It's a visual indicator for drivers. Your back wheel better be ahead of this line or you are gonna see a bright white flash ahead of you.
This mentality has been seen before. The Great Depression brought on a generation of hoarders. They'd save their cash buried in the back yard, and have a basement full of canned meat, tin foil and a mountain of "collectibles" sitting in there garage. Items they can't bare to part with...because they might need it one day when the next Great Depression rolls by.
Fast forward a few decades. Their cash wasn't sealed properly and half of it has rotted beyond recognition. Inflation took care of the rest. The canned meat is questionable, tin has been replaced with cheaper abundant aluminum, and their mountain of collectible items are worth less than the purchase price.
Either way you invest you inherit risk. Your suggestion of food and guns seems like a good idea if you think the world market drops to zero and everything fails without the hope of recovery. But in that situation. Guns and canned food aren't investment grade commodities, their survival tools. That isnt returning profit. Its breaking even at best.
We've seen plenty of economic downturns but historically it has ALWAYS risen afterwards. This is where you must ask yourself...Should I bet on the system that has a 100% success rate in returning profit over time, or should I prepare for the end of the world?
Or you can be smart and invest in the market system, and use a small portion of your profits and income to prepare for a couple years of tough times.
coins...ok that sounds good. They become collectibles and precious metals typically outpace inflation. But do note, if you are buying gold now you ARE buying at a peak price. That is inherently risky.
stamps...maybe
Furniture????...I never knew love seats to be an appreciating asset.
Energy and canned food? ok now you sound paranoid. We've been in economic slumps before, and I think we are strong enough to get back out. In the mean time, others will continue to make money off the atmosphere of fear.
These servers make a *ridiculous* amount of money for their owners/shareholders. Revenue from hosted services would be a drop in the bucket in comparison....no a single water molecule in a bucket. Leasing out their servers in the off hours would barely pay for the brokers cocaine-and-hookers slush fund. Hardly enough to warrant the effort and associated risk.
It seems like a novel idea, but in the end I bet it remains just that.
2-3 servings of soda a day is considered normal in an American diet.
Knowing that 1 lb of body fat is worth about 3500 calories and a can of soda is about 200...
400 calories removed daily for 120 days would net you 13 lbs of weight loss on paper.(Assuming your calorie intake/burning was neutral at the time)
13 lbs is pretty close to your 10 so could make two assumptions. either 2 sodas a day is an accurate estimate of your prior habits, or you were on a path to weight gain prior to kicking the soda habit:)
You have no idea how many people are completely willing to do what you want to avoid.
We have a ton of people with their own blackberries signing up. They all are informed several times by us that their phone is open for legal discovery and a possible remote wipe if needed.
As the IT person, I DON'T use my personal phone. And I'd rather not. I don't understand why my company is ok with the use of personal phones...it just seems like so much unecessary liability and extra work. Personal devices aren't just a security risk, its an administration nightmare. Try providing technical support or troubleshooting a single error for 15 different platforms. It sucks. And it eats up time.
multi level, or network marketing is a legal scheme provided that there is a tangible product or service in the mix, like those herbal juices you see advertised on the back of peoples cars. Zer01 only sold the idea of a future product...vaporware. This doesn't seem to be an "MLM" type scam to me, but a full fledged 100% illegal pyramid scheme.
Well if it includes handwriting recognition I don't think it will be of much concern. I've sampled Microsofts handwriting recognition on their tablet devices that are out now. I am very impressed with its capability. My handwriting is readable, but in no way pretty. It picks it up. I saw someone else write with it. He has a handwriting style that is a weird mixture of standard AND cursive writing and it still picked it up.
If this (potential) future product can do what current products can, handwriting neatness will be of no concern.
You don't have to. Just get sick enough to require surgery and drugs. Wait a couple weeks and you'll be swamped with phone calls from your insurance company, crying while they systematically deny coverage of costs line by line on your medical bill.
I see the addition of gov't as an additional competitor. If private insurance/medical companies can't compete with a massive clumsy government system (which it will be, I agree with you)then they don't deserve the status they've built themselves up to.
While I agree with you sentiment, I can see a valid argument to counter yours.
Our taxes pay for fire departments. Your home may never go up in flames but someone else's will. Should we all get a tax refund if our houses don't blow up in x amount of years? It would be nice but I haven't heard outcries for tax refunds on unused fire protection services yet.
I like the idea of personal responsibility, but I also would welcome a goverment approach if it's feasible for the gov't to do it correctly or better than a private industry. With the internet being basically borderless, I don't think gov't has the resources to solve this problem at all.
"We remember the past but we don’t remember the future. There are irreversible processes"
I am in NO WAY qualified to argue on the subject, but the quoted statement seems like a problem with words and definitions. You can't 'remember' the future because the word 'remember' doesn't apply very well to the word (or usage of the word) 'future.'
I'll probably be blasted out to hell by an expert in 3...2...1...
Citibank is the bunch that *can* require seven days time for you to CLOSE out the account. They did not say they freeze accounts and anytime. Argh why am i responding to Anon...
It's questionably vulgar. And I know all my neighbors are seeing this.
The best thing about the name was when my girlfriends mother stayed over for vacation. She brought her laptop and asked for the name of our WiFi network. My girlfriend said it to her in a mumbling embarrassed tone.
--"Via email and text messaging, I was able to relay this information from Port-au-Prince to Steven in Oregon, who relayed it to the State Department in Washington DC, and it was quickly forwarded to the US military at the Port-au-Prince airport and dispatched to the search-and-rescue (SAR) teams being assembled. "
Great, but just about any smartphone can do this, even most of the closed smartphone platforms, nothing special. Is it just me that thinks Android fans are becoming as preachy as the apple fanboys?
It's not so easy to carry the death penalty for treasonous crimes here in the U.S. because treason has to be witnessed and confirmed by no less than 2 people. Treason was one of crimes that the US founders decided to go heavy with detail. They understood the treason argument was an effective tool for tyrants, so they wanted to be very clear on the subject.
I had no argument with the thousands of games part. While there are thousands of apps already available via the app store, I do not know the load the device can take.
But I still think it was silly and presumptious of you to argue that having thousands of quality games available is unlikely because it lacks support for Flash (which sucks anyway) or games made available through emulators.
"and because the iPad is a computer it can store thousands of games and add a variety of interactive features."
No mention of flash in that sentence, or the entire article.
No mention of emulators in the article.
No mention of playing NES, Amiga, MAME games AT ALL in the article.
Wild assumptions that the games have to be flash, or have to come from NES, Amiga, MAME emulators.
You're assumptions are just as weird as this article. Yes I think the article is dumb too.
**I know lots of people who are bad with computers, I certainly do my best to make sure they don't touch one
Do you take pride in your elitsm?
Do you fix your own car?
Do you repair your own plumbing?
Do you rely soley on your own intellect and physical prowess to take care of all your needs and wants in the world?
I can go on with this list... You ridicule others for not being as knowledgeable and tech savvy as you. I bet you those same people you ridicule can think of at least one thing you suck at.
There are plenty of people in the military with the competency to do the task at hand. Bringing the talent in is NOT the issue. Its KEEPING THEM.
A person that enlists in the Air Force for 4-6 years into a computer systems job has the oppurtunity to gain valuable skills.
On the outside, 4-6 years of experience with those skills can get you double the salary the military can provide. Paycheck rules.
I have tested one VOIP app named iCall Free voip. TERRIBLE over 3g. So far success of connection over 3G is less than 25% for me. And of that 25%, I have yet to have a placed call last more than 5 seconds before lagging out.
I use it for its primarily for the relatively cheap international calling. YMMV, but I do get some good rates to the countries I call, and it beats having to drive to the nearest oriental market for calling cards to asia.
SMS is where you can save some cash. I used to have an unlimited texting plan but I've nixed that.
It is great for those of us that have multiple contact numbers. You can add forwarding numbers to your GV account so people that want to contact you only need to know your google number. You can forward that number to any or all of the phone numbers you choose. Your home phone, cell, work number...or even a vacation spot.
I also like it as a junk call screener. I've nixed all my telemarketer calls. If I sign up for some service that needs my number, I give them the GV number. If that service provider sells my number off to other marketing groups they get nixed too.
possibly because they were looking for someone that can lend extra hand, not necessarily someone with experience?
Decent salary or not, I'd venture the say you were one of the more economical candidates too. People with years of experience demand to be compensated for that experience, whether they deserve it or not.

Many (most?) guys have an adolecent fascination with their balls that extends well into their adult life.
:P
Without going into details here...Think of all the fun things you couldn't do with internally held testicles!
