    Read about killer pokes. There is the PET killer poke, and setting bit 5 of the I/O register at 53270 on a C-64 that can do damage.

    The human body will run on a 25 hour cycle without any outside stimuli.

    It is way easier to go west than east as far as jet lag - moving sleep and wake time an hour later is effortless, an hour earlier is hard.

    By coming out with BootCamp, "Big Brother" said it's OK to run Windows, so the Happy Citizens are just expressing their united glee at the Great Leader's wisdom and tolerance.

    If BootCamp were to disappear, running Windows would return to ThoughtCrime status, and all mention of this period would be deleted from the Mac history books, much like the PowerMac 6100/DOS has been relegated to trival obscurity.

    The US is finally slowly getting its head out of its arse regarding recent (i.e. rail) mass transit.

    That will help with exercise (walking the 1/4 mile to the station), pollution, and traffic (which causes stress and accidents, nearly 100% of Americans have been in at least one car accident or knows someone well who has had at least one accident)

    (Of course, I do agree that anyone who offers "figure it out yourself moron" is hurting the cause more than helping. Fortunately I haven't run into too many of those.)

    That was common in the comp.os.linux.* newsgroups a few years back. I don't know if it is any better now.

    Retarding the ignition can overheat and burn up engine parts and the exhaust manifold, and in any event, cause a lot of pollution.

    Having it close the throttle and lower the fuel injector duty cycle, or just increase EGR slowly up to 100% to slowly cut of combustions would be safer.

    Not all immediate 100% power cuts jerk one around - you'll feel the drag, but it is no worse than mild braking - at least on some vehicles.

    Most do. At a certain speed, all engine power is cut.
