    No new versions since 2.0.55 and 2.2.0. Known vulnerabilities in 2.0.55 with no production version fix. 2.2.0 doesn't support Cold Fusion.

    How about have applications that are signed by trusted organizations automatically get rights, and others not?

    Here are the important parts that will make it good, not evil.

    1. Allow the user to overrride this in both directions, i.e. force allow or deny
    2. Allow the user to add and delete from the trusted publishers list.

    Good for a start, but this might be better:

    Do software on your spare time and have the open source people come at you from the left, Microsoft come at you from the right and your current employer (if they have bad intellectual property polices) come at your from behind, all trying to take you out.

    Consulting, sys admin, makes sense, there isn't much money in software.

    Mandatory voting?

    Australia has it, many others do.

    Exercise? Health improvements? Lifestyle changes?

    Many employers will refuse to hire, or even fire current employees who are heavy, smoke, or use certain substances (some of which are medically quite safe).

    It IS more than the accent (although that can be a barrier in and of itself).

    I had a class taught by a Chinese professor, with an accent, and hard to understand, seemed like he was jumping all over the place, like showing steps 4-6 then saying, but first you need to do 2 and 3, right after number 1, then you finish off with step 9, right after doing 7 and 8.

    Yet I though it could have just been me.

    Then a Chinese student in the class told me she had trouble understanding him, and asked him to explain it in Chinese, and it was still hard to follow. :)

    I mean, I certainly wouldn't want to be a doctor in the United States -- you go through ten years of school to spend all your time juggling HMO paperwork, paying for malpractice insurance, and giving people advice to which they never listen.

    Oh, and if you screw up majorly, you can kiss all that hard work goodbye. Sure, you're paid well, but that's not the sort of thing I'd want to deal with.


    Just blame it on the disease process, aging, the person's weight, the person's genes, a virus, or just bad luck. Those 6 will get you out of 99% of situations, the other 1% is you taking off the wrong leg in an operation or something that is both unhideable and so egregious you need to lose right then and there.

    Malpractice insurance would be much cheaper if they'd take the licenses away from all the quacks. Just as car insurance would be much cheaper if they'd take the licenses away from all the hotshots, drunks and incompetents too.

    And the "geeks" and "nerds" don't get hired, or if they do, get laid off, since they don't have "leadership and business skills" meanwhile people with those skills (often the "preppies") go into business, hate "geeks" and "nerds" and outsource everything.

    Al Qaeda didn't respect any convention or rights when they attacked on September 11, 2001.

    I don't expect our enemies to act fairly, no matter what we do.

    Killing 3000 people is monstrous.

    We aren't torturing people unnecessarily (or even at all). Gitmo is fair, and necessary to prevent another September 11. Evidence in a normal criminal trial would compromise investigations and interventions needed to stop further attacks.

    Don't feel sorry for the terrorists or say our treatment of them is monstrous. They would love to attack you with mustard gas if they could.

    They are illegal combatants. They thus lack the protections given to POWs, but as terrorists, they are not mere criminals - in addition, full criminal trial protections could compromise investigations and interventions needed to stop future terrorist attacks.

    Or do you want to be in the next September 11?

    Rules protecting POWs don't protect illegal combatants. This is a fact, regardless of how many faults Bush may have.

    Amnesty International has an anti-US slant in many cases:

    "The unlawful detention of "enemy combatants" ": We follow the requirements of treaties regulating POWs, etc. These enemy combatants didn't follow the rules of war - hence no protection. Even the UN isn't complaining!

    "Many of these detainees allege they have been subjected to torture or other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. In desperation, some detainees have attempted suicide. Others have gone on prolonged hunger strikes, being kept alive only through painful force feeding measures."

    People can allege anything. I can allege North Korea is using microwaves beamed from a satellite to control my thoughts - that doesn't make it true. People attempt suicide for many reasons, including guilt. And if we didn't force feed people, we'd be accused of letting them starve to death.

    Anything we do, or don't do, will get criticized, unless we let them all go and wait for another terrorist attack.
