Can everyone (Apple, Microsoft, Oracle, Govt, RIM et al) just leave Google alone to do whatever it's doing? Strop suing it, probing it, or trying to interfere with it's operations.
As a consumer, I've benefited immensely from Google and if it weren't there, my life would be far worse. Nothing else matters.
"...she stumbled upon a solution whereby nearly 99% of all test subjects accepted the program as long as they were given a choice, even if they were only aware of that choice at a near-unconscious level"
If anything, this just shows me the way science should work. An assertion is taken, tested impartially and if found wanting it's discarded without a second thought. No emotion, no hysterics. Just science.
Your worries about a huge conspiracy are shall we say...a tad loony?
Great MMORPG with no monthly fees - just a one time purchase. Excellent depth, replay value, HUGE and beautifully detailed world and inherently multiplayer. It's quite complex though and I'm not sure whether 10 year old will get that much into depth.
But that's the whole point. These people who are marching are demanding the right to determine FOR THEMSELVES what is appropriate and inappropriate for them to watch. They just don't want the GOVERNMENT doing it.
I wonder - 4 billion years later when (if?) our sun explodes, will it be far away enough to escape being destroyed? If so, it might be the only remnants of earth/humanity ever left.
So every single arrest is carried out like this? If they had to arrest the CEO of Merryl Lynch, they would break down the door to his mansion, train machine guns on him, wear body armor, and abuse him with choice invectives?
I suppose abusing someone is also "to protect themselves."
Can this really be anything else? I mean of all the telcos and other companies that we know violate our privacy in egregious ways, they have to pick on Google? Seriously? Is this the best they can come up with?
It's overkill. I suppose many regular brands will want to protect their names. For example, I'm sure Google will buy up "www.google.xxx" . According to the Indian law, this will be banned? For what possible reason? The courts will surely overturn this.
Is there any law which says that all ".xxx" content HAS to be pornographic?
I don't think it has anything to do with intelligence. It's about being brought up in a culture where such stuff is the norm and thus not seen for what it is - simple exploitation. Of course, it doesn't help that a lot of Americans are simply unaware of what goes on elsewhere..
I came to the US from India a few years ago and was absolutely stunned by how the phone thing works here. Stay locked in to a phone for two fucking years? Seriously? What if you want to upgrade your model? Two years is a loooooong time in the tech world. What if you want to change your carrier AND change your phone? What if you want a prepaid phone with as cheap service rates as a post paid one? What if you want to pop in a new SIM from another carrier. What if.....oh forget it!
They needed three years to reach this conclusion? The purchasing power parity of the dollar to the rupee is about 10:1. Meaning 10 rupees in India is around 1 USD in terms of what one can buy with it. If you charge me the same USD value (multiply by 45) in India, you're bloody insane if you think I'm going to shell out that much!
I remember seeing a store selling a copy of Windows Vista for Rs. 14,000. That's like asking the average american to pay $1,400. Any takers? Didn't think so.
I didn't like the Ice/Fire series. It barely classifies as fantasy in the first place. After so many books, there's just a mere hint of supernatural elements. Most of it is like some fictional European history. And though there are quite a few interesting characters in the book, I'm getting tired of them just missing each other and never fucking meeting up....Martin has a real problem with tying up storylines.
Too much fluff. Have you seen the way Isaac Asimov writes? Now that's the way to get a book going! No long boring descriptions of the damned landscape for example.
I'm looking forward to the day (if ever) when a corporation can be sentenced to death. It must cease to exist entirely by order of the court for committing a crime. Surely at least one corporation should have gotten the death sentence by now!
As for fines, it's about time they were fined a percentage of their profits instead of a lump sum amount. Corporations these days have so much money that even a fine of tens of millions is a mere nuisance instead of a real deterrent. Fine them 50% of their average yearly earnings and then we'll see how lightly they take sentences...

Sounds familar?

Your brilliant insight of relating two things because their names sound similar has made me a huge fan of you :D . Now I look at Obama with new eyes!

You realize it's dirt easy to just connect your laptop to your TV with just one cable?

Maybe he wasn't American :D
But arrested in what manner? Was he a threat? Why were guns trained on him? Was he resisting? What was the need to call him names and abuse him?
Wtf.
I know. God forbid people suddenly get the ability to talk to one another with restrictions! A disaster for humanity!
They should pay me to work from home! After all, if there's no need for a huge office and staff etc. they save a shitload of money

Aren't hypocrites usually pretty well informed? :D
I was talking about cell phones, not cable channels...
In any case, the GP was making the point that it's exploitation to charge for these channels and deluge us with advertisements 1/3rd of the time.

Fair enough.

Except that it's incorrectly marketed as a fantasy.

Uninstall is indeed a verb.
Earnings in this case can be taken to mean that amount which is finally distributed to shareholders. That should take care of everything!
