What are law makers going to do when in ten to twenty years we have self driving cars that they can't give ticket to?
"Obeying laws tax" for all self driving vehicles?
Indeed it quit working for like 20 minutes. It is working now so I dunno what the problem is. I've seen it do the same thing before but never for more than 15 to 30 minutes. Must be a slow news day.
When you're talking about interstellar distances "Just" is an appropriate term to put in front of a distance as small as 12 light years. At our current space flight capabilities it would take us ages to get there. How ever 12 light years is do able, in terms of physics and engineering. We would have to be willing to commit to a very serious project to build the ship though and I don't foresee any government willing to do that in the near future.
Ya it is a start but I'm a bit dubious about the cost and such. Telecom companies are kinda notorious for taking funds that are supposed to be used to improve their networks and connect more customers and pretty much doing very little with it and giving the rest away as bonuses etc.
I think it is awesome that they are trying to get fiber through out the city but 55,000 is a really really small number. From the math in the article it is going to cost them $3636.37 per residence/business they connect to the network. Any idea how that compares to google's plans in Kansas city cost wise?
Pretty much this, anytime someone talks about getting politicians to raise taxes on the top 2% they are talking about getting politicians to raise taxes on themselves. Just look at the income of anyone in any law making or policy making decision in the government and it is no wonder that the middle class and poor have a higher tax rate than the wealthy elite.
I know it is unscientific of me, but I hate it when the answer is so much less interesting than the mystery. Not because I dislike seeing a mystery solved but because when the answer is mundane it just means we have to look else where for the really earth shaking discoveries. Hopefully some day in my life time we will make some truly earth shaking discovery. I remain optimistic.
They don't pay because you write them a letter telling them what to do with the money, and since you do that the legal fiction is it was never theres so it doesn't show up as profits on their books or some such nonsense.
If he still believes that he made it far longer than I did, I think I was about twenty before I realized that the USA doesn't live up to the Hype. Sure we were founded on some great stuff, freedom of speech is a big one but if our government ever lived up to the ideals set out in it's founding documents it wasn't in my life time.
Mars is nice guys but lets go a place a little more interesting with our unmanned probes, like one of the interesting moons around our solar systems Gas giants.
Lets send a manned mission to Mars, and send our robots places that have a higher chance of yielding some really interesting data. Data that even use armchair geeks can get excited about.
Ya as a geek I refuse to buy into the texting scam that the cell phone providers have going. I think I can found the number of texts I've sent over the years on two hands.
These really aren't much in the way of system requirements. Which just shows how this extended console generation has had an affect on PC graphics development. Though I'm not complaining it saves me money in the long run, and forces programmers to learn how to do more with less hardware which isn't a bad thing for the most part.
Do we have credible reports of someone actually being killed because of hacking? The media and politicians for the last few years have been hyping the hell out of the hacker menace and the "cyber" war but no one is even providing any body counts
I don't have cable, and I don't really watch TV. That said I typically hear about shows from friends, co workers etc and end up going on line to check them out. If I like them I tend to watch the entire series online.
Typically these shows are on pirate/rogue tv sites and I have to fish through dead links to find working ones. Why? Because I can't watch current or even last seasons episodes online from legit sources 95% of the time.
Now after I watch a show I'll get hooked and watch all of it and then stop and later if the series is done I'll typically buy a box set, when I get in the mood to watch it again. Why simple because finding working links to non legit sites is a hassle and I don't bother to do it.
This year though with the shutdown of megavideo I find myself watching far less tv shows, infact I'm pretty much clueless on the new tv shows that were released this seasons, I've not watched any nor am I following any. Because of this it is pretty unlikely that I'll end up buying any full season dvds/bluerays
The boat has practically no resemblance to any other sailing vessel. I'm mean yay!, you got the record and you took it back from kite surfers but your actual craft resembles a sail boat about as much as a kite surfers craft resembles a sail boat.

I'd expect to see this in the business section of a news site, not slashdot. This isn't news for businessmen stocks that matter.
Not political bullshit that doesn't matter.
Call of Duty: Duct Tape Ops

Hollywood accounting would make Al Capone roll in his grave.

This wouldn't of happened if they had bought from a Gallente design instead of these knock offs.
Why not just use steam for indie games if that is what you are into, it isn't like you have to go out and buy a new computer to play most of them.
Just think of the Virus and hacking potential of a printer like that. You could literally make it start printing shit.

Or as the big corporations would say, "Working as intended".
