    How many people out there believe the opt out lists work, or it's just a way to verify an address?

    Spam usually can be tracked down. Either you have to respond, or go to a website.

    The law should have a high fine, include legal fees and costs. But there would be a problem with one state having the law, where it's going through a server someplace else and the spammer can claim they did not know where it is going. There is another problem with states passing laws that interfere with interstate commerce.

    1. Get the biggest/faster machine available. You need something to brag about.

    2. Go to conferences and geek cruises at the expense of the employer. That way you get the contacts with people at or about your level (noone in your company is at your level). Then if you get stuck, you can get the answer from the people you meet.

    3. Be really rude and nasty. Then people won't bother you with really stupid questions.ie. "I have a stupid questions for you." The proper response, is "if it is a stupid question, why are you asking."

    4. When solving a problem, make it look very easy.

    5. Pull some all nighters. Nothing impresses the boss like working 40 hours straight.

    I only work 30 hours a week when I am on vacation.

    When at one company, I used to put in close to 80 hours a week. We had a couple of p/t students that put in over 40 hours a week.

    You have to watch out that by putting in all the hours now, that you don't destroy your wrists.

    One learned to program efficiently. You did not need 40mb of ram for a word processor. I ran Perfect Writer 64k of ram.

    I was raised on a PDP-11/34 with 128k of ram for 20 users.

    It's true. A judge may not apply logic, or may apply his/her own logic.

    It's always good to have a few extra sets of eyes on legal briefs. An extra set of eyes, can add a new view on an old arguement. Or maybe a new plan of attack.

    Take two lawyers, they will not really argue. They will tend to agree with each other. Take two engineers, they will always argue!

    An engineer is used to changing the universe to solve a problem. If the computer can't handle the interrupts fast enough, change the number of interupts, and change their significance. This type of thinking It can also be useful in law. You can change the legal theory to fit the case. By viewing the facts in a different light, you can include a contract claim in a discrimination case.

    If the /. effect can take down servers, it certainly can keep their lines tied up.

    I don't mean just tie up their lines and fax machnes. What I mean is to express our disagreement in an inteligent fashion. Thousands of phone calls opposing the UCITA will get our point across!

    In a public figure libel, you must prove that:
    • The statements are false.
    • That the false statements were published recklessly or with Malice

    A company may not automatically be not a public figure. But a non-public figure may be a limited public figure if they are in a controversy of public interest. Employment issues, discrimination, etc. are issues of public interest. Especially since government agencies were created to deal with them.

    I have also read some cases where labor dispute issues are protected from being considered causes for a defamation action.

    They filed with the countersuit before I won. They now claim that I did not win, even though they paid me over $140k.

    They are suing me because they don't like people knowing about the lawsuit and the information behind it.

    What law is there that says that you should shut up when you win? There is no gag order!Mattel filing and continuing with this countersuit is what has been bringing on most of the media attention.

    I am not going to shut up! Other people in similar situations are helped by this information!
