AFAIK there were a few minor hitches. One of the cameras on the first stage went out and they had trouble telling if it had splashed down or not. Also, the weather was a hassle (as it should have launched yesterday:P) and there were quite a few lightning strikes last night they'd been worried about.
this is why Steam is such a panacea for indie gaming. It's essentially a publisher you can go to once you've finished your game and go 'lookie what I did, sell this for me please', and a similar thing for XLBA. The only problem is that they don't pony up any cash for you mid-development.
Films, books, music and games all have publishers that push for them to complete for deadlines, yet I've never heard of an artist (painter, sculpter, whatever) pushed for a deadline due to their sponsors money issues, Certainly for public displays marking an event, but they're generally given generous amounts of time in the first place prior to starting.
Maybe someone will burst my bubble and reveal that all artists are pushed by publishers, it's just that we never hear about it, but if not, what is so different about a painting or sculpture as a labour of love than a game or film as the same?
The first FPS was running around with sticks and rocks, throwing them at things The first ever RTS was pushing rocks about on the ground with a stick The first ever MMORPG was collecting rocks until you got bored and started again, but collecting sticks. You could also collect with other people if you wanted to. The first ever third-person shooter was walking behind someone, poking them with a stick, and making them throw rocks at stuff (even that's an evoloution of the first FPS)
I have a special place for TA, it was the first Proper PC Game I got into (I say proper, before hand I had a Mac and spent my time playing Arcade games on it, that and I got Myst with it for free, which I never got into).
Aslo, I was unsure if the GPP was being a grammar Nazi and I had to double check I spelled Annihilation right:D
It's not so much as a history of PC gaming, but a history of PC FPSes. It makes only a passing mention of other genres, like platforming (Braid, which, ironically, was released on consoles first) and based adventure games. It makes mention of hybrid FPS/RPG games like System Shock, Deus Ex and Bioshock, but no matter what genre the guy is talking about he always winds up back at an FPS.
Where are the RTSes, like Starcraft, Command and Conquer, Total Annihilation? Where are the God Games, Civ, Black and White, Evil Genius? Totally ignored. RPGs are mentioned in passing and the main focus was on MMO vs MUD rather than the likes of Diablo and Baldurs Gate.
as for Gun wobble, that may have been an ID invention, but I'd quite like to know who first put a gun in the players right hand, rather than in the middle bottom.
Funilly enough, no-one I know has an iPod, or any other Apple-based MP3 Player. I use my phone (A non-smart phone too) as an MP3 player, as do most of my friends. Of those that do have an MP3 Player, they've got ones of a variety of brands. It's quite possible that Apples market-share is over-inflated in some peoples minds, either that or it's under-inflated in my mind.
There are some. If you're ever in Glasgow, go down to the Barra's when it's on, you'll find a plethora of bootleg DVDs for sale if you look hard enough, most of which are fire-damaged stock but there are those few that are out in Cinemas and are inside cases with badly printed movie posters in the sleaves
There are hundreds of Free-to-play 'MMOs' out there (most of them browser-based affairs and/or Korean) that use a similar model to DDO. Free Realms being one of the biggest (and newest). The idea of Free To Play and Microtransactions is one that's proven itself to be profitable. I can also see Blizzards new MMO using that model to prevent it clashing directly with WoW
The little wiggly dance guy was briliant. You could tell he was happy,
Then they went and snipped off the Controllers Tie as it was his first launch :D

What about changing gear, you have to take your hand off the wheel to do that. Unless you're in an automatic.
No Apologies! You get it right the first time or you face the Gas Chabmer!

No, I don't, but the catholic church didn't force Michaelangelo to stop before it was finished because they wanted to make money as soon as possible

No.
Nooo! I was hoping that power consumption would continue to increase! Sooner or later our PCs would require 1.21GW!

I met a coulpe of Gideons once. They were both like Gandalf, if Gandalf wore a Turtleneck...
then what's that stuff that comes out my head when I sneeze?
Are you telling me that's NOT pixie dust?!
I thought I'd just not used enough... and I can't test it any more as my cousin doesn't want me anywhere near her kid after the whole window thing...
why don't we burn you?
oh, wait, sorry, I mis-read your username...
I thought it was Propane Motherfucker...
It'll average 0.02% of c, that's about 134123mph, so to travel 800 miles would take 21.47 seconds
"Enterprise" users aren't... EnterprisING users are. There's a difference
bugger, - instead of +, I fail at maths
