    but what is the latency on something like that? I could fill a jet with thousands of DVDs and crush that record, but my latency would suck.

    Also, I know the article doesn't suggest this but I have seen news about surgeries performed over the internet. How can a Doctor perform surgery over a network with high latency?

    Isn't RedHat trying to woo big corporate/enterprise accounts? From what I know of the corp/enterprise attitude (admittedly not a lot), they don't wnat to have to upgrade the whole OS on a yearly basis in order to stay up to date. [...] How is RedHat not shooting itself in the foot on this one?

    Buy Advanced Server and you are supported for 3 years. It should be plenty affordable for "big corporate/enterprise accounts" and because you have to pay for it, more credible in some corporate minds.

    This would be a huge mistake for any competitor. Why would you want to jump into line with MS? You would have no opportunity lead. You would just play catch up and never be able to offer the customer a superior product.

    Follow the standards and anyone can lead the market if they implement them better. They will also avoid being blindsided by new MS "standards".

    The greatest mistake we could make as a species would be to short-circuit this cycle for the sake of our own greedy, short-sighted interests.

    What do you think we are doing now? Were we really meant to transplant hearts, kidneys, etc? Were we really supposed to use radiation to kill cancer?

    I have to "click through" an install of Sun's Java jre and jdk when I install it with no GUI.

    You may have a point when installing software but it is my understanding that most if not all software in commercial distributions lie under a GPL license. You should be able to agree to GPL once to cover all the GPL software about to be installed.

    I agree with that, but what does 'noncommercial speech' mean? Do you think the propaganda they host is noncommercial? It's something that caught my eye.

    Who defines the usage of dotORG? Why aren't they enforcing it? Will it get enforced with new management?
