You're forgetting nature has already solved the problem - I can just imagine a bio-computer sitting on my desk sweating away until someone points a fan at it....
Maybe you'd have to shower it every so often (cause of the sweat), but that's a more interesting problem - everyone knows you shouldn't put computers near water...:)
Did anyone actually use those? It always struck me that Swatch were just bored of GMT being the international standard, so invented one based around Switzerland:)
take a look at this link for an article at linux journal about a GNU/Linux based videophone on a watch:)

Linux In A Box

If all you want is a small box to connect you to the net I can't reccomend Freesco enough (it's nothing to do with SCO)

It's so easy to set up that someone who'd never heard of UNIX can do it, and it's a dead reliable way of connecting your home/small office network or whatever to the net, AND it all fits on a floppy. Been connecting our house for about a year now, the only time it's gone down is when the floppy drive in our aging 486 broke.
With the number of Gas Giants that are being found "out there" it seems that it's just a matter of time before the instruments get sensitive enough to measure small (probably rocky) planets...
Space.com is reporting that NASA are likely to scrap a number of planned missions,
No they aren't - if you look at the article it says that they'll be putting some of the missions back, but they haven't cancelled ny planned missions.
the movie looked to me like they'd blown the special effects budget - I mean, using the actor who played her father as the alien? how much of a cop-out is that? the least they could have done was put some latex on his forehead...
surely that means that the light still travelled the same route across the surface, and therefore it is still looking millions of years into the past, and so still providing evidence against creationists?
It's easy... microbes live happily on bit of rock, huge comet (meteor?) hits, tons of rock get chucked into space, one or two manage to escape the gravity well and land on another planet.
IIRC it looks like one entire hemisphere of Mars is an impact basin.
Basically a big floating server farm, with high-speed satellite links
Problem no-ones spoted... What'll be at the other ends of the satellites? You have to connect to the backbone somewhere...
Of course, you could have multiple connections, but that would be just a tad expensive. And anyone connecting to your service might be able to be prosecuted (somehow)... --
All in one box? That _is_ good news... I use both Windows and Linux (out of choice), and it's a right pain to have to switch OS's just for one app... --
I heard this on the radio this morning in the UK... Apparently the MI5 are publisicising it in the hope they'll get the laptop back - they rekon their encryption is safe, and they have the resources to get the laptop back a hell of a lot quicker than your average commuter... It's must've been on at least one CCTV cam...
Whoever stole that laptop - big brother is watching you....;) --
This looks *way* interesting! I really'd like to buy one of these, but I just bought a G4, and have a hard time rationalizing buying another computer
If I get one, it'll probably just end up n my desk next to my AMD 450, but how cool would it be? at the moment I dual-boot windows and linux (out of nessecity), but having an always on, quiet (it doesn't appear to have a fan), linux box in my bedroom would be great, if only just so I can be permentaly connected to a talker;) I'm probably also the only person who's considering using this as a server, but as our other computers are basically too noisy to leave on all the time, a system like this would be ideal... --
It's not just tolerable - this device is excellant. Just thing of all of the people who pay ~£800 for a computer they're only ever going to use for typing, e-mailing and web browsing. They only use Windows because that's what comes with the computers, and it easiest to accept the default. Now if someone put together lots of these, passed them on for ~£200, people would be clamouring for them - not only are they cheaper than your normal windows box, but they look nicer and are quieter as well.
The only problem is the current lack of printer support for linux... all we can do about that (at least the non kernal-hackers amongst us) is sign the petition linked from the/. front page... --
I wonder if they are willing to send this thing to Germany:-)
I'm seriously considering getting one shipped to the UK... I just hope that they don't realise there's no way in the world I'll be signing up for their isp service that way;-) --

This is great, but what happens when it rains and people want to go look at your website as they can't be outside?
"HTTP/1.1 Error 1000 - Sun is not shining"
All too real... remember Swatch @beats?
:)

Any volunteers to visit them?

Because while EE is only 10.5ly away, it's in a differant galaxy :)

I'd say it was all of those things, and the one thing it isn't is "aliens from Epsilon Eridani-ly"

follow this link for some interesting stuff from nasa about astrobiology, including the "life evolved on mars and flew here on a comet" theory IIRC
It's easy... when you have a problem, don't bother ringing support - just Ask Slashdot
:-)
Hmm, still doesn't look like the seti@home client can buffer more than one unit at a time...
/. then?
what a great bit of code. seriously, run dnet instead, if only for the client.
why don't new dnet clients get announce to

Even better - tommorrow I'm planning on overclocking my watch.

Don't worry about that.... I'm 16
Here's quite a good web page about it...
