  1. I can't even find ringtones on Knock, Knock: Information Pollution Is Here · · Score: 2, Funny
Yeah, that is becoming a real problem, any search for anything that is remotely connected to mobile/cell phones returns the dreaded "FREE RING TONES".

Ironically, I've actually been trying to find a ringtone to give a friend as a Christmas gift. But information pollution (read: search engine spam) has made it impossible for me to find a decent version of the tune or clear instructions on how to install it on her phone. I'm even willing to pay!

Also spammers cannot see your filter so they don't know if their message was filtered.

Unfortunately, they do have one tool to measure whether their message is getting filtered: tracking images.

If you have images turned on in your HTML-enabled MUA, you are giving the spammer information about (a) your own filter configuration, and (b) the filtering configuration of the general HTML-mail-reading population.

The good news is that I doubt any spammer is sophisticated enough to use the information in (a), so if your filtering mechanism is better than everyone else's, you may still have an effective filter. As soon as the rest of the population catches up to you, though, spammers will adapt.

Boy, I wish their motto were:

    Software That Just Works

    instead of:

    Software which Just Works

Besides which-where-that-would-do being a pet-peeve of mine, the latter sounds to me like they're trying to say it just BARELY works.

Her: Why do you leave the toilet seat up? I always need it down, and you need it down 50% of the time. Efficiency would require leaving it down as a matter of practice.
    Me: True.
I have two words for you: lazy evaluation. Even assuming you need it down 50% of the time (implying you should drink more or eat less fiber), the most efficient algorithm is to let the person who is about to use the toilet do it, if necessary.

  7. Beware Kinesis Maxim on Ergonomic Keyboards · · Score: 1
While the Kinesis Ergo is well-liked by many, I did not have such great results with the Kinesis Maxim.

Here is a review I wrote about the Kinesis Maxim. The short summary is that I was not thrilled about its construction or layout. And I typed slower on it.

I guess I was afraid to take the week or two to learn the Kinesis Ergo, so I opted for the more normal-looking Kinesis Maxim.

Well, I have now ditched the Maxim in favor of a Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro. Undeniably the best product Microsoft ever made.
