  1. Re:Delusions of grandieur on Galaxies To Beat World of Warcraft? · · Score: 2, Funny

Star Wars never has been lowest common denominator, and neither should SWG be.

Sorta like Episodes I, II, and III, right?

  2. FF XI Best MMOG my ass... on Golden Cog Awards Celebrate MMO Winners · · Score: 0, Flamebait

While FF XI's gameplay is excellent, the reasons Statics stated it is the best ("...attention to detail, and a great community") are exactly the reason why I left the game after 3 months. The world is very plastic feeling (Many buildings can't be entered, no falling, or swimming) and the comminity is horrid. The pastic world I could deal with, as it's supposed to be a console MMOG but the community is only of the worst ever. High levels who know nothing about what they are supposed to do (30+ white mages who melee, ect.)and just plain out rude people.

The folks at Stratics are either smoking something or the bar for MMOGs is getting lower and lower all the time.

  3. Consider yourself lucky! on Do-It-Yourself "Dungeons and Dragons" Film Review · · Score: 1

I think this movie could have been MUCH worse. It was entertaining and good escape. Worth a matenee ticket. Yes the plot was weak, the acting bad but it did have Thora Birch (goddess alert!)and had some fairly decent special effects.

Hopefully in the future the movie execs with get a clue and try turning Baldurs Gate or some other DnD campigne into a movie. Those have a much much better story line.

  4. Female? Me? on Men Playing as Women · · Score: 1

I must admit that my "handle", blood_rose is somewhat femmy. Even so I still use it as I have for the last five years. Couple that with playing as a female in Quake2 (and just about every other FPS) and people just assume you are female. Even worse is that I belong to an all female clan. Is it gender exploration? In a way yes. I do wish I was a female (a real one not a post-op) and playing games as a female gives me a chance to do that. I wouldn't call it exploration though, as I know what I want. Aside from that, I like messing HNG's heads. It's damn funny when some guy tries to get your number while playing Q2...

  5. Fighting the UCITA in Utah on Lobbying Against UCITA: A Practical Guide · · Score: 1

I am trying to start an orginized movement against the UCITA in Utah. Unfortunately I have ZERO experience with dealing with politicians and I don't speak legalese.

Basically I need some help here finding out where we are at in our state. According to 4cite.org, Utah is considering something called UETA, Uniform Eletronic Transactions Act (SB 125). I can't make heads of tails of it, it's all in legalese and doesn't even resemble UCITA, but does deal with the same subject matter.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, or provide me with specific information about Utah and the UCITA, I would be extremely grateful.

I've already compiled some information about the UCITA on my web page, but these needs to go further. If you can help me out here please e-mail me at bloodr@aros.net

  6. Defense? What defense? on DeCSS Injunction Ruling · · Score: 2

I just spent 40 minutes reading the court document in question. What I am seeing is the failure of the defense to effectively come up with a compelling argument. From what I can see here the Defense has submited little or no evidence to support their argument.

They better come up with something good when the actual trial starts or they will lose. It's been pointed out more that once that the Denfense is going about defending this case all wrong. I tend to agree.

Someone get those guys better lawyers!!

  7. Re:Highlights of Judge's ruling. (READ ME!!!) on DeCSS Injunction Ruling · · Score: 1

    >Once again, this is plain wrong. Calling CSS a copy protection system is incorrect. 5) A phrase that's used repeatedly in the DMCA, "...that effectively controls access to a work protected under [the Copyright Act]" On this point I think the Judge is correct. CSS does control access. In this case where the DVD can be played.

  8. Re:One point to consider... on MPAA Head Valenti on DVD "Hackers" · · Score: 1

    >Okay, granted, I think the MPAA is overreacting a bit and it's okay to bash them for that, but give them a break. They're about to see their entire system destroyed in the next 10 years and they're trying to hold on to what they've got left. And this is one of the reasons why the Open Source movement will eventually fail in the end(bigger picture here, obviously). It doesn't have a central body; it doesn't have a controlling force. This is the reason why open source WILL succeed. It opens the doors to inovation and forces those who wish to make money from it a reason to put out a quality product. I think we all know what happens when something isn't "open", we get shoddy products Windows. -b

  9. The Purpose of Jack's Article on MPAA Head Valenti on DVD "Hackers" · · Score: 1

This may be very obvious to some, but Jack's piece is clearly trying to sway the non-techno savvy into believing that deCSS is about piracy. Everyone here knows that, but the average joe doesn't. What they will see is that deCSS is naughty and evil. I'm expecting more misleading pieces such as this to hit the mainstream press in the comming week. It's about PR and public image, since the MPAA _knows_ that it maybe not be able to win from a technology stand point. Right now this is issue is only out in the tech savvy community, but by bringing it out to the general public, the MPAA can win the war through misinformation (slick PR). -b

  10. Confusion on Crackdowns, Fools and the MPAA · · Score: 1

As it stands the DVD CCA cases are a mess of misinformation, mostly perpetuated by the non-techo-savvy press. Now, more stories are flying around about the orgins of deCSS and how the law applies to it.

It's been quite some time since I last slept, at this point I don't know how to sort it all out. Maybe sleep will help.

But I am keeping track of all this mess.

I'd apperciate anyone who decided to pay the site a visit, any clairifaction on any point regarding the DVD cases.

What does this mean for those of us who already have these court records posted? When will this madness end?
