You know what part of the economy was wreaked by cars?
The Horse and cart business. The horse breeders, riders and the cart wheel manufacturing jobs were decimated.
Oh, they all got different jobs? Well who would have though that a human is flexible.
However this won't sell. Two reasons. One people don't like the idea of not being in control... even if they would have made the situation worse. Two, liablity to the software engineer. Its easier to handle liability (legally defend) if the person making the error was put into harms way by that error.
50000 Americans are killed on the roads every year... a 9/11 every month. Logically reducing that even just by half would be a big deal, but logic will not win the argument.
I think you are overestimating how good humans are at driving. Your "hiccups" are happening every day on highways around the world by people who think they are *better* drivers than everyone else. A quick google will give you at some of the huge pileups that we have had with just a little fog...
There is a very large entitlement culture in the universities
As someone in a university (and has worked in UK universities), this is simply not true. The entitlement culture is in banks and investment funds that are too big to fail.
What about billions for banks. Why don't we spend that on civil protection(police) etc... rather than on often private corporations that F***** it up in the first place?
So why did they build very very conservative reactors to *test* the theory? The absolutely *did* need real working reactors. Its not a matter of faith in math.
I have to admit, I don't see what was so horrible about the 10:10 commercials, except that maybe they assigned consequences to the people who caused them.
Might want to brush up on your physics. No way in hell it would hold a Farad (ie 1 coulomb per volt). Only very recently can you get 1 farad caps, and they have a peek voltage on the order of 10V or less.
This is the case for so many of the proposed solutions. No one seems to just run basic numbers on them. Once you do, most of the being more green, isn't really doing anything outside the obvious "feel good" --now let me drive my SUV to store kind of thing.
Sorry, i known too many Journal Editors. Guess what they are--Scientists that also publish peer review papers. If anything thats only going to make it even more sensitive, not less.
Just try and publish something that paints a Editors previous work in a bad light. Good luck, you are going to need it. The lack of randomness makes it worse. The editor can (and does) pick reviewers that will tend to agree with his/her world view.
...and probably can't be done in time to make a useful difference.
What? How much time do you think we are talking about? 10 years, 100 years a thousand? We are here for the long haul. Just because it won't be ready *tomorrow* does not make it useless. Not planing ahead 20+ years its what caused the problems in the first place.
Considering how free my internet is..... Thats not very free at all.
You do not need learning AI to deliver a pizza. Same with many of these jobs.
You are, by definition, a Luddite.

Also a car won't be drunk... or get a a ego trip over how awesome a driver they are and speed etc...
What about a minority report type car than can dirve up the side of a building?

The fact is that they are not saving anyone... except face... oh they are not even saving face.
So your saying the government should bail out the bankers, and cut science funding... because the bankers borked it up?
We are already emmigrate to those countries em mass.

I readed the papers and went to the talks.
You made the accusation, you need to back it up. But its pretty clear your making it up.
care to back that up with a citation. IIRC much of colony collapse has happened on old fashion *non* genetically engineered crops.
Because the vast majority of people are morons,Because the vast majority of people are morons...
Who is the the more foolish. The man who can't explain, the man who won't explain, or the man who doesn't understand?
Or the salesman?

Very eloquent of you. You would you prefer to have a button handed to you? Or is this part of the "black humor"
And yet this dude doesn't think it's comedy. He/She thinks its on the money.
Black humor... yea right.

And you have the brain of a Turnip.
Talk about religious nut jobs.

Hemp growing for material in many places is not illegal. Hemp plants that is good for material is not so good for smoking.
my problem is that the numbers just don't add up.

There really is a killer app in there you know. Probably not right now... but some time in the near future...
