. ..American history is deliberately taught in a way that discourages critical thought, heroizes the government, and suppresses historical dissent.
I dunno - when I compare the ideolized American History I was taught to the quality (or lack thereof) in our politicians and statesmen today, I see that we have fallen quite far, indeed.
Maybe they should have taught me the truth about George Washington being a pothead, and Jefferson being a boinker of slaves. Then I'd probably be a bit less violently opposed to our current Junta.
Why dont you get a metal detector, and check to see if Kerry really DOES have schrapnel in his leg?
Really, the guys who are accusing Kerry of lying have ALL been discredited. Every single one of their claims has either an official document that refutes their statements, or they've contradicted themselves.
I have no desire to fight China for the for the right of who gets to have an economy.
Unfortunately, it's not YOU who decides. There are PLENTY of people who would love to see you fight China for their right to have an economy. Most of them got draft deferrments, or had powerful parents pull strings to get them into the National Guard, and years later, accused guys like you of faking their purple hearts. But don't let that get you down. You GO girl.
The US is the best country in the world, and that's why people risk their lives and leave everything they have to come to this great land of opportunity and freedom.
If the US's broadband is "behind" other countries, well then, it can't really be all that important. Only pornographers, pirates, and hacker info-terrorists need broadband anyway. The rest of America doesn't need broadband to be great. And the Bible teaches that broadband is evil./free-market fundamentalist in denial.
Now, personally, I believe that Boeing should not be allowed to do business with the US Govt anymore because of the unethical scams they pulled in the EELV contract. (disclosure - I work for Boeing's competitor)
But you didnt' provide info on the Delta IV. How does it do, TOW/Payload?
More importantly, though, is what's happening right now.
* Job stress, life stress
* low morale, depression,
* anger and resentment.
Anyone other than me notice a LOT of freinds getting divorced lately? In the last two years, 6 couples, people I am or was friends with, have split up. Luckily, only 2 of them had kids.
Seems like the "new capitalism" isn't so Family Friendly after all.
I bought a dual 2ghz G5 that was supposedly "quiet as a whisper" - and it WAS, when I installed 10.2.
Except for the beeping and buzzing, which requires the user to disable NAP mode with a special developer tool (that function has been disabled in the latest version of the tool).
Since I upgraded to 10.3, the fans began running faster, and MUCH louder. It's not as bad as the "wind tunnel" G4 - but it's certainly not Whisper Quiet. And with each OS update, the Fan behavior has changed. Overall, the sound output of this machine could be qualified as "annoying as hell". 99% of the noise comes from the damn fans which can't seem to decide how fast or slow they need to run.
I'm afraid to install 10.3.5, because some folks tried it, and now their Macs won't sleep. Clean transition to and from sleep is really the main saving grace of this machine now. I really wish that Apple would address this problem in a workable way.
I sure as hell will not buy a G5 iMac from them, advertised as "whisper quiet" in the hope that it will stay "whisper quiet".
You can blab and whine all you want about complexity. Then you gotta explain why, since Word 95, there's been an issue with Section Breaks spontaneously changing type, and causing page numbering problems.
Still exists in Word 2003.
Countless usenet posts exist describing the anguish of VBA programmers when they encounter this bug, classify the behavior, report it to Microsoft, find out it's been a known issue for over 9 years, with no plan to fix it.
That's not caused by complexity. That's caused by bad management. Folks with no conscience. No pride in their work.
Wildly irrational business decisions are being made by the groupthinkers who are today's and tomorrow's CEOs, because everyone else is doing it
Can you blame them? Just like in the 1990's, when a company could put a ".com" on the end of their name, and see their stock increase tenfold overnight. The market is rewarding this "latest *in* thing".
Outsourcing is the pop-music of the stock market. Until someone else comes up with a better "sound" (or until the regulatory climate changes and makes it even less worth their while) - this trend will continue unabated.
Basically, the meme I'd like to see blasted across the internet is: If you bought stock in a company because you read somewhere that they're cutting expenses by outsourcing - you're a damn fool. Buy stock in a company that doesn't have outrageous "rock-star-like" compensation for it's executive staff. For instance, Apple Computer.
does anyone honestly think that the government is going to allow flying cars in metropolitan areas?
For the rich, maybe. They're more important, so they should be allowed to operate flying cars. Especially members of the Saudi Royal family, and the bin Ladens.
I'm working an app which does automatic formatting of Word Documents.
Dvorak's only scratching the surface WRT VBA "quirks". Especially with large (>2 M or so) documents. They have been the bane of my existance for the past 6 months. And the bane of the existance of the last 4 developers who were unfortunate enough to be cursed with this project over the past 8 years.
Lately, I've been thinking that the best solution to all of my problems is to just tell Word to save/import as XML, and use Perl to do all the processing and formatting. Unfortunately, we JUST upgraded our product from 97 to 2000. Nobody's going to fund the upgrade and re-engineer to 2003 at this point.
So I'm stuck trying to make this pig fly.
I would not wish Word on my worst enemy. Apparently, our customer BEGGED for it.
First DVD player I bought was an Apex 600. It had a secret config menu that allows you to disable Macrovision.
When I first hooked it up, I found that I could not even view video piped through the VCR, whether it was recording or not. Just the way I had arranged the cables. The only solution offered by the vendor was a $100 "filter" that would basically counter the Macrovision. (WTF?).
So I shut it off on the DVD player.
Later on, I got a TV that accepted multiple video inputs, so I didn't need to pipe my DVD player through the VCR anymore.
In the 4 or so years since I bought the DVD player and disabled Macrovision, I have NEVER ONCE even been tempted to think about taping a DVD. Why would someone want to tape a DVD? Only reason I use the VCR for is for playback of my legacy video library.
Many Linux projects have been made available on OS X in the past two or so years. I don't suppose something like this filesystem could be easily adapted though. Anyone know?
If your leaders are acting suprised by the current outcome, they are either grossly incompitent, ignorant of history, or really don't give a toss about the future of Iraq.
Probably all three. You mistake what I mean when I say "9/11 changed everything".
What changed is; now American leaders have an excuse, plausible to American voters, to impose fascism. That's what changed on 9/11.
(not kidding here) #1 reason why Java is UnCool: JavaScript. JavaScript has nothing to do with Java. But Java was victimized, bent over, and abused with a pointy stick in order for some marketing jackasses (company not named) to make a quick buck trying to confuse people.

What will they do with the waste?
(pay America - who will gladly store it because we'll need the cash after the neocons get through with us).
thanks, bud.
Shut up you dirty commie!

Still, a pretty damn good idea.
Also might be a good cheap way to embed signalling devices in pavement for autopiloted cars.
Yeah. They're not the next Google. Maybe the next Brio. Or Crystal Reports.

. . . and thank God I got out of that horrible, stifling, dehumanizing business.
Helping someone work through a problem is one thing.
Having to be less than honest with a customer because the salesman's mouth wrote checks that our engineers couldn't cash is quite another.
yes.
it is.
No doubt.

I'm good with all that.
Next step is where we get to; "courts decide whether the laws are Constitutional"
I downloaded a copy of his rendition of "When Eagles Soar" - and I NEVER downloaded another song again!
