I can top that one. My old neighbors in the midwest claimed that dinosaur bones were put on earth by gawd to test the faith of christians. Nope dinosaurs never existed, just their bones and remnants.

Woah. I just noticed that I never visited the main page since the 1999 design changed.
Good point. It would be tough to have win installed with no HD. The nice thing about the a901 is that it came with ThizLinux. Worst distro I've ever used, but it let me know that the hardware worked with Linux. The only thing I haven't been able to get going with other distros is the modem and that isn't a big deal. The screen sounds sweet though!
Not a bad looking machine. My main reasons for buying the machine I did was lack of windows, weight, and cost. Too bad they bundle windows with the 1945.
Probably been said already but Knoppix is the ultimate way to test a notebook for Linux compatibility. It doesn't cost anything to go to a store and try it out on one of their demo machines. If you can't test or they don't have the machine try to go the Apple route as another poster said. I personally love the iBuddie 901 DeskNote I have. NewEgg.com used to sell them but no longer does.
I've downloaded all the tracks that don't suck on the list already;) What I don't get is why they are going after people who are sharing some of the 80's music that really only appears on compilations (like Nu Shooz). Another poster said it looked like they are going after those with the least cash (those under 25)... aside from that I can't see any other reason.
I kinda wish I had a BeOS machine just for mp3 stuff, but I get along fine with Debian since it can handle all the Norsk characters I throw at it (ø à á æ Æ and more) and has all the mp3 + ogg apps I could ever want all an apt-get away.
Thanks for the note on Openssh for windows. I really don't use windows unless a friend comes over to my place and needs a file from me. Having said that I find it much easier to just download WinSCP and be transferring files rather than set up Network Neighborhood (which often needs the windows disc). BeOS support is nice but I haven't seen a box running that for over a year now (shame really). Wouldn't it be possible to compile OpenSSH for BeOS?
It comes with Linux (of course) and for Windoes you can use WinSCP (do a google search for it). I know Mac Classic had a freeware SSH app, and with OS X you should have SSH.
Remove anything that can possible come loose. I shipped my CPU from Minnesota to California and when it arrived the memory was out, cards had come loose, the whole bit. The screws even wiggled loose. Also there was an article on K5 about shipping. Search for it and read it.
Mouse wheel support works for me under Linux, but if I switch to another machine with the KVM it will kill the mouse wheel support. It is something about X and the switch (can't remember the details). Try hitting ctrl + alt + f2 or something to goto a new login screen without X before switching to another machine. When you come back to the Linux box do ctrl + alt + f7 to get back to Linux and your mouse wheel should work.
I think it has to do with the maximum number of stories value in your user prefs. I can't remember what the default is (10?) but I have mine set to 30. I assume that if it is set to the default you don't see all the stories. I could be wrong. What is your maximum number set at?
Part of the problem is that/. didn't post this important story to the front page and instead decided other stories were more important. Honestly it blows.
Go for the patent! Of course, that would cost the credit card people $. They just want to stop people from fucking up thier processing machines, not sue them (too much money).
It's getting harder to do this now, especially with some credit card companies. Some of the envelopes now have a customer (wouldn't that be harrassee?) locator code with a barcode and threatening message printed on the back of the envelope. Take a look, I scanned one of them in. Sure, there are ways around it, but still.
So you could see some bizzare marriages of convenience, for example, where an aging Walt Disney marries a much younger woman who coincidentally just happens to be a Disney corporation executive, with a prenuptial agreement that states if she ever remarries, it will be at age 60 to yet another young Disney executive... and so on, and so on, and...
C. By a different vehicle or don't drive (walk, bike, bus, train)
... it's a terrorist training tool. Bad M$, bad.

What advantages would this have over Knoppix?
Try Knoppix too. It's Debian with a reasonable installer and you can boot off the CD to test it first.

At least your mom doesn't cover up the trash icon with a finder window and call for help because the trash disappeared.

Nope, just /. being /. again I'm afraid. I like k5 better but I just want the tech news most the time.

So what happens if I show up at the ATM stoned? (Aside from being an accused terrorist)
Windows needs to run on *nix just as much as we need shit on our ice cream.
Both these terrorist acts will be stopped at once.

Talk about inbreeding!
