I don't know about the other ipos coming down the pike, but with ours those email addresses were scored and hand checked before being added as backfill on the contributor lists.
As far as spam traps went, for those that bounced back with instructions, we followed them, but it was our experience that a small number of people actually missed out. Most people who felt they deserved being included and had super spam traps emailed me and we went from there.

Yep, we knew that the hardware we use the code on would make installing it (even with a large amount of documentation which it doesn't have right now) difficult.
In the end we figured that if even the login code or otehr stuff in the code helped out, it wouldn't be a waste to release it.
That said, I know tony and the crew are working to make the docs better. But developing the site is probably higher priority to them right now.
In the Text of the complaint, the Lawyers for the DVD association assert that they are filing in behalf of the "DVD CCA, a trade association and the sole licensing entity for Digital Video Disc ("DVD") technology."
Silly me, I always heard DVD stood for Digital Versatile disc.
One thing I found (and I own a ton of domains, although no linux ones, I just like to use em for different stuff). Is that if you are patient and you really want a domain and the person is just a squatter, you'll get it when tthey either have to pay money for it the first time, or , when they have to renew. It's already happeneing now. I got two domains I really wanted just by waiting.
You can check if money is owed on the domain by going to the registar and pretending to pay thier dues (but don't complete the transaction). I know this works with netsol, I'm not sure about the rest.
Tim has been very clear on this, if an author wants his book to be published under a free license, that's fine, but he does tell them it in his experience it will cut into thier royalties.
I was given this choice and chose free, as I will for my next one.
Everyone who was in the program and faxed in thier forms is by default confirmed for 100 at 30$. To change your share allotment to 50 or 140 , you must call and tell them.
Shares will officially in your the account on tuesday, the settlement date.
You can sell now if you like. Settlement date doesn't change that. To sell, you call the number in your packet, ask to talk to a broker, get the broker's name, tell them your sell order. They will probably hang up on you at this point and will call you back with a confirmation. This is how brokers are. This may seem rude, but it's how thier line of work works.
At the end of the day (After 5 pst probably) everyone will get an email confirming the deposit of the shares in the account. If you do not geta confirmation email by say 10pm pst, you have my permission to flip out and email me spaztically:-)
Please read your Q&A again, the bulk of the people calling are asking questions already asked in thier forms. Please RTM, you'll make this so much easier if you do.
Again, if you have questions , etc, email me chris@valinux.com. I will forward these on to the underwriter.
You are wasting peoples time if you send mail to me and the broker mulitple times. We are receiving the email, I assure you. Everyone that comes in must be checked against the lists we have and that takes a little while.
As you can expect, the underwriters are very busy taking and making confirmation calls. Don't worry about it, everyone will be contacted and every voice mail will be returned. we have 40 people on the phones at DBAB and they are all working as fast as they can.
If you are -hyper- paranoid about not getting through with your confirmation, feel free to email me at chris@valinux.com and I'll forward on your confirmation (if you are in the program only, of course) and answer any questions you might have.
Thanks!

You'll be alright, feel free to email me and I'll make sure they'll get it. chris@valinux.com But they are very responsible, they'll get back to you.
Please note that they are -very- busy just answering confirmation phone calls and emails that are coming in preemptively. You won't be left in the cold. Most likely they are waiting to send out a batch of email verifying your confirmation.
Yeah, we missed 1 or 2 bug lists/lug lists. It was bound to happen. When it happens, we've foudn that many of the people qualified anyhow, hence the phone call. I'm in florida for thanksgiving, but I'm goign to give a further once over on these on monday.
If you have questions feel free to email valinux@db.com (you can email my personal address at valinux.com, but I'll just forward it there so we can track it). I can't promise anything, but I can promise a reply.
That's all I can say for now. Quiet Periods are very restrictive.

I suppose we could, although, I don't think a fork of enlightenment would be compelling the way enlightenment is. And I don't think a fork of e would be as compelling without Mandrake or Raster.
Well, I'm sorry you feel that way. Luckily I won't let your being a fool interfere with my job of giving out bandwidth, machinery and services to free software groups.
As far as my ego, the message you quoted hardly relates how large it in fact is. I invite you to visit my web site to truly appreciate the grandiose nature of it.

Sorry, to truly measure and map the contributions of Open Source software members you have to look at much more than LSMs. LSM's are good starting point, but that is all they are. I'd like to first say that the number of people who work on multiple projects is actually much greater. A simple scan of source code reveals this.
I'll be honest, I don't think this article is worthy of criticism as it is of praise. It's nice to see the recognition of folks, even as statistics, outside of the common names we all know.
Chris DiBona VA Linux Systems -- Grant Chair, Linux Int. VP, SVLUG
The SCSL is just a transparent attempt to steal PR from real open source efforts and put pressure on Microsoft.
Well frankly, I am of the opinion that Sun parasitic relationship with free software should be met with a cold shoulder.
Bill Joy has said: "scsl is LESS restrictive than gpl ala linux. it allows you to innovate and profit from your innovation in the normal ways. gpl does not."
Sorry Bill, it doesn't work that way. The scsl puts up insurmountable obstacles to both using the code in other projects and also restricts the ability of a coder to help out with bug fixing a SCSL covered project. So is that what is less restrictive?
Those who have followed this debate know the rest of the crap that Sun is trying to pull and If this kind of doublethink was restricted to the halls of Sun that would be fine, but remember Sun's prominance means that thier view of open source gets attention. This makes sun a tick on the ass of free software.
So how's that for a rant.

Note to self, mirroring big files is different from mirroring little teeny ones. Oh well. I think we hit the roof on the interface. My machine is not really loaded at all at 2.0 but I think all the traffic is movie. Ah well.

Also, VA's only underwriters are:
Credit Suisse First Boston
Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown
Hambrect & Quist (Not WR Hambrect, diff. comapny altogether)
Lehman Brothers
Other brokers offering the shares purchased them from the syndicate of underwriters and are not under our control. Thanks.
Just trying to clear away any confusion before it begins.
