    her extent into areas of writing such as that of written portraits
    and automatic writing are powerfull and amazing,
    and her 'break the rules' attitude in regards to an
    'autobiography of alice b toklias' is insane in its realism and perspective

    i dunno...

    remember neil stephensons 'diamond age'?

    the girl in the story had a whole dress made of
    nanotechnology that could pump water out of it
    or change its color shape design etc.

    one of the guys had an overcoat that protected him
    from certain air borne nano technology and also
    some bio hazards too

    both were all kevlar-ish etc

    think about it,
    one set of clothes for your entire life
    but a wardrobe of anything you could think of
    ;)

    come to think of it
    as a coder who has put in at least a couple of 24+hrs stints
    it would be nice if these things could perform some hygienne based tasks too!!

    im sure everyone else would appreciate too

    people , who were protesting peacefully ,
    in one case was shot , outright by those hired to protect multi national and globalization efforts and interests

    the goal of globalization is still the same
    the rich get richer and the poor

    the people in my own city of vancouver were pepper sprayed on the Prime Minsiters authority
    just because another known mass murder mr saharto
    from indonesia was in town

    if you know anything of world politics you know that canada and the u.s.a. have been exploiting indonesia for a looooong time

    its obvious you dont though!

    in seattle police officers were crying
    cuz they were told to pepper spray and tear gas their own citizens, probably people they knew!

    is this what democracy looks like?

    my experimentation points to the same stuff

    xml is interchange
    database is storage

    they do have to talk together though,
    and generating a xml doc based off of database info and then parsing via
    xslt is so trivial i dont think it needs repeating

    i think the biggest prob in xml is the incompatibilities
    between the parser & lexicon engines and well as interoperability too

    of course html browsers are like this already
    and i loathe it as much as Tim Berners-Lee!!

    the best modules / libs ive found for this has been libxml ,libxslt and XML::LibXML,XML::LibXSLT

    as far as really good xml to db interchanges oracle was working on XSQL[?]
    which would allow for db connections via an xml file, it was only in java though ....blehck!

    pet's called paperclip, we learned how to do form
    letter's back in '85 using basic text templates
    with placeholders...

    just looking into this yesterday!

    i used to hide some files in wav files in '94

    there was this prog on the
    church of the subgenius site
    that allowed me to do this

    basically it worked by throwing out enough lsb's
    {least significant bytes} and replacing them with
    the text

    or encrypting is not enough
    both working in tandem does a wonderful job

    the reason why 3d has not really caught on is because there are no environments to do this in!

    2d works well with monitors because they display in 2d!
    3d does not because its displayed in 2d!
    in order for 3d to be accepted it must be an immersive 3d environment, duh!

    this is too expensive right now for the average consumer

    until business can grasp the concept of having their whole office surrounded by 3d objects that people can click on and use well...

    my vision has always been 3d hooked up to a wearable hooked up to gps
    3d models hybrided into our real view.
    3d models of ronald mcdonald outside the restaurant telling people about the specials,
    shake his hand transfer funds for a happy meal

    and thats just a corporate version

    i see some of your points
    quake for all the love i have of it
    is not the be all/end all
    it has faults too
    i cant transmit a 3d banner in a quake plugin
    or hook perl DBI or JAVA jdbc and deliver database driven info to a 3d window {yes ive done this yawn}!

    15kb vrml vs a 113kb gif animation!
    sounds great but incompatiblities are choking the vrml market {the browse workgroup should solve this } and the cost of hiring 3d modellers with 3dmax as opposed to webmonks with dreamweaver
    oh you didnt know it cost more to produce 3d?

    course its not all bad vrml is an iso standrard.
    X3D is backwards compatible with it as well, and to be incorporated into the MPEG4 spec. Oh yes MPEG4 has a 3d component . I hope is solidifies the incompatibilities.

    sony's new 3d media package for the playstation , blendo, was based off of vrml, for the most part
    as well

    or parallel graphics site
    or better yet use notepad or vi or xemacs
    like html its a markup language
    learn the tags voila!

    i do agree that conformance is one of the main issues.
    i continue to fight for on the vrml lists
    recently they have formed a browser workgroup that should hopefully solve this
