Wow. Just wow. I stop in here to kill a little time at work, and see this.

Thanks, Woz. For showing me what true class and humility looks like. And reminding me how much room there is for me to grow and be a better person.

BitZtream is not off base. I was very athletic in school with letters and trophies and all. 15 years ago I could run a marathon. After a spinal injury I have not kept in good shape and I let my weight go too, so this will be hard for me. But it's not about dancing. It's about ratings and attracting viewers. You never know what pranks I might find a way to pull on the show.

I don't mind it when people treat me badly. I wish I had no fame and no money, and I do my best to limit both. But I'm not cool enough to turn down the producers to DWTS. By the way, I had never seen the show until I watch a DVD last night.

I don't care that I cannot hack my Tivo.

I do care that the current system allows Tivo to change my system's features at any time, without my permission

I paid fully for both my system and the lifetime schedule data. I should decided whether I want to accept a change to my hardware or not. Today I do not have that option. It's entirely possible that Tivo will choose to revoke a current feature of my system at some future date. That is unacceptable to me, and I should have the right to over ride any update to the system.

I would find these reviews a lot more useful if there was more disclosure of the reviewers biases.

How do I know the author isn't benefiting from writing his glowing review here in some way? I'm not accusing the reviewer of any misbehavior here, but when the only negative of a book is that "But, be forewarned. You're going to want your sticky notes and your highlighting markers nearby" I have to question the bias of the reviewer.

    Your analysis is naive.

In order for the heat sink to bow it must be constrained on both sides. I have NEVER seen a heat sink that wasn't free to expand in the plane of the processor/heatsink interface.

Even if the heatsink was constrained in this manner, the expansion would then propogate as stress in the material that is constraining the sink itself. The stress on the heatsink could indeed cause the sink to bow out, but the amount of bowing is now a function of the strength of the heatsink structure. It will be _lots_ less than what you are estimating.

I probably shouldn't jump into this since I'm likely to get flamed to hell and back by the morons who know nothing about signal processing beyond Nyquist-Shannon theory but here goes.
Discrete Fourier transforms are nowhere near as 'perfect' as Shannon-Nyquist would lead you to believe. It works fine if your signal is very well behaved. (Basically it needs to be composed of uniformly spaced sine waves). The catch works like this: When you select a sampling rate for your DFT you have decided on a basis set of frequencies that you will use for your representation of the signal. If your signal has a wavelenghth of 4.5 times the sampling rate, shannon-nyquist says you can perfectly reproduce the signal. In fact you can't. What you get is ~50% of the signal at 4x, ~50% at 5x and then significantly lower signals at EVERY other wavelength in your DFT. A good rule of thumb is that you need to sample at around 7x your frequency cutoff to accurately represent signals that aren't well behaved.
