  1. no more worthless language on Why People Who Make Things Should Learn Chinese · · Score: -1

Stop these groundless rumors that there is any purpose in learning Chinese except self entertainment.

I read novels in Chinese just fine, thank you very much, spent 5 years living there... hoping to find my dream job where I would actually be able to make SOME USE of the language. Instead, I ended up wanting to murder my coworkers postal style everyday because they coerced me against my will to speak in shit ass English. If I hadn't learned a word of Chinese I probably would have loved them.

A friend who has lived there 8 years now said this: "Did you ever notice when you are in any office for foreign companies from America or Japan that the Chinese aren't even capable of speaking PURE Chinese with each other? They always have to inject Japanese and English words every 5th word in a sentence... because Chinese isn't a real language. They find they have to resort to real languages like English or Japanese to actually communicate. And it's true. They despise themselves and their culture so much, they WISH for annihilation. Don't even get me started on $100/plate Chinese dinners the company paid for and not one single person had anything NOT NEGATIVE to say. Chinese people HATE Chinese food with a passion. If I spend $20 in USA eating I will be raving about the deliciousness, you can be goddamned sure if I spent $100 I would be cumming in my pants with pleasure. Not so with a $100 plate of Chinese garbage food they themselves hate.

Eleven years later here I am -- my friends who DROPPED OUT OF HIGHSCHOOL have gained enough experience in the factory to be in the 40's.

Meanwhile blowing half my paychecks on a $350/month micro efficiency apartment, $200 groceries, and $7000 10 year old used car payments, student loans are taking every other penny I got. My highschool drop outs don't have student loans. Boy did I fuck myself for ABSOLUTELY NO REASON.

In fact, the word is not even in my dictionary. Do they have native citizens, or do only English people reside there?

Third. Every time you watch a war program on the history channel they talk about "Then 1000 troups attacked Hitler." etc., but they never ever (and not through all of highschool history class) explain how many soldiers are contained in one troup? I assume it would vary by army, so why not just say there were 10,000 SOLDIERS and be clear?

It has been 2 years now :( Reading that pile of SQL .NET and so on books doesn't seem to have helped my prospects at all, because recruiters and interviewers always only care about responsibilities I had in my last job, and wouldn't trust that I could do or know anything else.

Restaurants in China are judged by patrons present at a random time, if no one is in there, the food must suck, and no one will ever go in there, thus you can expect everytime to be taken to a restaurant with a huge line long wait and food only good as the random luck a random place had to gain critical mass and became "famous" and popular by having 1 customer present when everywhere else on the street had 0. (Thus drawing everyone else by popularity not goodness)
