No - in the home the Commodore 64 was the dominant computer. In the schools it was the Apple II. As the previous poster stated, the IIe was far more expensive than an equivalent C64 (which was techinically superior anyway). And their software libraries were equal as well, so the C64 was no more a "toy" than the Apple II series.
January 84 - just about the time the Commodore 64 was starting to take off... I'd say between the C64 and the Amiga, Commodore ruled the computer landscape in the mid-80s
It is a *very* noticeable difference, if the source material is there. The Jay Leno show is specifically shot for HDTV. If anything, it's *too* clear. YOu can see every wrinkle, every bit of overapplied makeup (which works fine for normal broadcasts, but isn't subtle enough for HDTV). And try watching an anamporphic DVD on an HDTV set... amazing.
You can get a Toshiba 40", widescreen HDTV-ready for $2200 today. And it's not "a little better resolution". That's like saying my 1280x1024 res display on my PC now is "a little better" than my 320x200 VGA screen from 1991.
Reception *is* currently spotty, due to a few things - HDTV is only being broadcast via airwaves/satellite feeds right now (and in large cities, no less). Remember the old rabbit-ears? Same difference, just digital. Once HDTV signal is sent via optical cable, reception will improve dramatically.
All it said was basically, "my friend's friend who works for a DVD manufacturer doesn't have a release date for TPM". Which means jack sh*t, if you ask me.
No, BeOs is an EXCELLENT, free as in beer, but not as in speech (but really, which would you rather have? I vote for beer) OS with a lack of good software.
Sony is already taking a big hit selling the PSX2 under cost. Adding this hardware is either going to jack up the already high price (over $300 currently), or cause Sony to go deeper into the red on the PSX2
MS coders poking fun at the competition - like this hasn't been done by EVERY developer at one time or another... Go back and look at Ultima III by Origin - a pirate is known as PIRT SNIKWAH - (Trip Hawkins - pres. of EA at the time and a competitor). I didn't see anyone getting their panties in a knot over that. Lighten up. It's just not that big of a deal.
Yeah right - if you're going to force MS not to announce products before they're done, you have to do the same for everyone. Like that would EVER happen...
Reality check Michael. The point of government intervention in the case of a monoply is not to *cripple* the corporation. Then they would be no better than Microsoft (not that they are anyway)
Exactly how would that fix anything? Let's say they split up into OS/Office/IE divisions. They're still going to be the dominant player in all three areas. Nothing will have changed, except stock owners will get richer.

Yeah, but that would imply that the iJellybean actually does look good (which IMO it doesn't)

No sh*t, Sherlock. "Where do they get off calling this "Dai Katana" or "Big sword" in japanese, when it obviously has little to do with it?"
Oh, so you've played through the full game? I didn't think so.
