  1. Re:Wow... on Dr. Dre Might Sue Napster Users? · · Score: 1

MP3 and Napster do not hurt artist. It helps to get their music (or whatever) out to people who may not have otherwise been exposed to it. If someone likes an artist, they will go out and buy the CD for other value added, go to their shows, watch their videos on MTV, whatever, if they can afford it. If not, the artist should be glad that people who otherwise would not have been exposed to their material get to experience it and become fans. 'Course if the artist sucks then they should worry because people won't have to buy a whole CD to find out that only the song that they play all day on the radio is any good and the rest sucks...

I'd buy a few too but only if I could run whatever OS I wanted. Things change too fast in this industry to have your OS soldered on your MB. Even flash wont cut it unless you can run an industry standard OS and software because who wants to wait for QNX to decide to support Flash 5 or MP4 or HTML 6 or whatever. It's gotta support Java too. Loose the modem and put in a 100MHZ NIC. Video out (NTSC,PAL) would help. Good sound is a must. Might as well throug in a DVD player. Cheesy ISP has got to go!!!

Really? How many new game consoles are compatible with the older models? Usually you have to buy your accessories and games all over again. Sounds like a perfect market for m$.

"WebTV has essentially not been a terrible success with it's approach and I don't think that internet appliances would be any better."
Yeah but WebTV uses a suck-ass browser on top of an embedded OS (sort of). It's basically Navigator 3.0, can't run Java, can't do plugins and is limited to TV resolution (640 X 480). A box with Linux and some decent apps could be built cheaply that would blow WebTV away!!!

Don't you think it's funny that it's the Record Companies and thier puppet organizations who are raising the most stink about the whole Internet Radio/MP3/Napster thing and not the musicians themselves. In fact many artist are experimenting or switching to this new distribution system. That's why the Record Companies are so against it. They keep the biggest chunk of every dollar spent on traditional media and they don't want that to change.

"we are going to hold back advances and slow development time if we keep catering for _very_ old browsers" Guess what...the newest browsers have problems with some of these issues. Try using a PalmPilot, Web TV or any of the new 'Internet Appliances' on most web sites. However, that would be an obvious marketing advantange. They would have an OS, Office Suite, AND Development Environments all designed to work together under their OS. MMM, didn't Microsoft get their butts in a sling for doing the same thing? Maybe Corel can get away with it since they are a Canadian Company.
